Deepicka Mehta’s Stories, Lessons & Insights

Deepicka Mehta shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Deepicka, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
Lately, what’s been bringing me joy is simply being present with family and close friends. Our work is so fast-paced and immersive, so I’ve found a lot of joy in slowing down, whether it’s sharing a meal, laughing together, or just being outdoors. Those small, intentional moments of connection really recharge me and remind me why I value storytelling so deeply in my work.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m Deepicka Mehta. I lead Deepicka Mehta Photography & Films, where we capture luxury South Asian and multicultural weddings with a focus on emotion and legacy. What I love most about this work is that it goes far beyond beautiful photos or films. It’s about preserving the heart of a wedding day so that couples and families can relive it for years to come.

Every wedding is different, and I approach each one with the intention of telling a story that truly feels like the couple. For me, it’s about the quiet moments, the laughter, the tears, and the traditions that bring people together.

I started this journey because I wanted to create more than images. I wanted to create something lasting, something that future generations could hold on to. Today, our studio continues to grow, and we’re working on even more ways to elevate the experience for our clients through albums, films, and personalized storytelling.

What keeps me inspired is knowing that what we deliver becomes part of a family’s history. That’s a responsibility I never take lightly, and it’s also the reason why I love what I do.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
I think bonds between people often break when trust is lost or when someone stops feeling seen and understood. Miscommunication, unmet expectations, or even just the busyness of life can create distance where there once was closeness.

But what restores those bonds is almost always presence. When we take the time to slow down, to really listen, and to show up for one another without judgment, healing starts to happen. Sometimes it’s as simple as saying, ‘I’m here, and I care.’ In my work, I see this every day in families and couples, the way a hug, a glance, or a heartfelt word can mend what feels broken. At the core, love and empathy are what bring people back together.

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
If I could say one kind thing to my younger self, it would be: trust the timing of your life. You don’t have to have it all figured out at once, and the detours are not mistakes, they’re part of the story. I’d remind her to hold on to her curiosity and love for people, because that will guide her to exactly where she’s meant to be. And I’d tell her she’s enough, just as she is, even when the world feels overwhelming.

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
A cultural value I protect at all costs is the importance of family and community. In my world, both personally and professionally, everything flows back to honoring connection, the people who raised us, who stand beside us, and who will carry our stories forward. Whether it’s capturing a wedding moment that reflects generations coming together or protecting time to be fully present with my own loved ones, I believe this value grounds me. It’s what gives meaning to the work I create and to the life I’m living.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
Yes. I’ve always believed that excellence isn’t about recognition, it’s about integrity. Giving my best, even when no one is watching, is what allows me to sleep peacefully at night and feel proud of the work I put into the world. Praise is fleeting, but the legacy of how you showed up, with care, consistency, and heart, is lasting. For me, it’s never just about the applause, it’s about knowing I honored the moment and the people who trusted me with it.
