Exploring Life & Business with Monique Capanelli of Articulture Designs, LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Monique Capanelli.

Hi Monique, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I started Articulture at the beginning of 2010 out of a 400 square foot garage we renovated to be a functioning art studio. For the first six years of Articulture, I operated out of here, which eventually spread to talk over the whole house, lol! Even during this time, my team and I did huge projects, Whole Foods Domain and Shake Shack were just two of many commercial projects we worked on. We were growing quickly and expanding our trade rapidly. We knew we also needed to expand our workspace and capacity. So in the summer of 2015, we bought a piece of property in South Austin. I was the general contractor and designer in renovating a 2200 square foot building into a first time retail boutique, a multi-functioning design studio, office and event venue.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I would not describe my journey “as a smooth road,” lol! There were many struggles for us along the way in getting Articulture to where she is today. My husband, Dante Dominick, and I put all we owned in building Articulture, as they say, blood, sweat and tears, and all our dollars. We personally, along with help from my mom, dad, sisters and their husbands, and friends, completely demo’ed the 1959 building that was existing on the property we bought. But as an optimist at heart with a survivor’s mind, it is the journey that builds us and makes us the people and the leaders we want to be. It’s all been well worth it and has proven to be a wise investment.

We’ve been impressed with articulture designs,LLC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Articulture Designs is a Design firm based in Austin, Texas. We own and operate a retail boutique, art studio, and fabrication studio, and event center. We are known for our avant-garde approach to all things botanical. We work within the residential and commercial sector. Installing our work all over Texas and beyond, having done major installations coast to coast in several states. We also provide professional maintenance to all our clients who would like. We design, fabricate, install hydroponic vertical living walls, moss walls/ceilings, and botanical sculptures. We are an art studio at heart, and those skill sets and design principles drive all of our work. Our works are so wide and varied. Beyond plant walls, we’ve created things like huge macramé ceiling installations, Venetian plaster walls with “fossilized Texas fauna,” and living furniture. We are known for being able to bring to life the most unique ideas.
