Exploring Life & Business with Ana Beatriz Muñoz Ruiz of ALTARXITO

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ana Beatriz Muñoz Ruiz.

Hi Ana Beatriz, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
My story has been a bit of a journey, geographically and personally. I was born in Veracruz, raised in Mexico City, then built a home and started my family in Cancun…and now I’m based in Austin, Tx.
So I guess you could say I’ve learned to carry “home” with me wherever I go.

My background is in communications, production and entrepreneurship, but more than anything, I’ve always been drawn to creating things that connect people and help them. Whether working in sales or creative projects, that sense of community has always been at the center of what I do.

Altarxito really comes form a very personal place. I”ve experienced the loss of people I deeply love, and building altars for Dia de los Muertos has always been my way of reconnecting with them, remembering their essence, their stories, and keeping that bond alive. When I moved abroad, that tradition became even more meaningful, because also helped me stay connected to Mexico, to my roots and to my family and friends.

What started as something very personal evolved into Altarxito, a way to share experience with others and invite people to create their own meaningful moments of remembrance.

Today, I’m bulding this project with the support of my husband and in collaboration with my sons, which makes it even more special. It’s a chapter full of learning, creativity and a lot of heart. I’m excited to keep growing it.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not really, I’d say it’s been more of a mix between excitement and a few “figure-it-out-as-you-go” moments.

One of the biggest challenges for me has been communicating in English. I still feel like I’m in the process of finding my own voice in the language, which can be frustrating at times, but it’s also pushed me to grow and be more intentional about how I express myself.

With Altarxito, the journey has been fun and stressful. There were very emotional moments, like seeing the first printed materials or receiving the flowers, candles, etc for the kit (which, by the way, my cousin Anita, helped me find the supplier and arranged the shipping). Moments when suddenly everything felt real.

As the same time, there where real logistical challenges, especially getting everything from Mexico to Austin. That process required patience, problem-solving, and a lot of persistence.

So no, it hasn’t been a smooth road…..but, you know….every challenge has made me more resilient and even more committed to what I’m building.

We’ve been impressed with ALTARXITO, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

What makes us different is simplicity and meaning combined:

The only things missing from the box are the things that matter most: the photo and personal objects that represent your loved ones. You decide whom to honor that year—your ancestors, family members, friends, or pets.

The problem we solve:
There is currently no products on the market that offers a complete, ready-to-use cultural tradition in such an accessible format. For many people, especially those living outside Mexico, creating an authentic altar can be time-consuming or intimidating.
Altarxito removes those barriers. It provides not just convenience, but a guided emotional and cultural experience: a way to remember, to teach and to connect.

Why it matters:
In Mexican culture, remembrance is an act of love. Dia de Muertos is not about loss, It is about presence. It is the belief that those who have passed continue to live through memory, ritual and celebration.
Altarxito contributes to healing processes through:
– Encouraging remembrance and emotional healing
– Preserving cultural identity across generations
– Sharing with the world a uniquely Mexican perspective on life and death—showing that the Day of the Dead is a celebration of life.
– Remembering the lives of your loved ones in your own life.

Our origin:
The idea for Altarxito was born in Austin, Texas, inspired by witnessing how Mexican communities, across first to fourth generations, continue to hold onto their traditions with pride and devotion.
The question was simple: How can we make it easier to preserve these traditions?
The answer became Altarxito: a product that transforms a complex cultural ritual into an accessible, meaningful experience for anyone, anywhere.

What we’re most proud of?
We are proud to offer more than a product—we offer a way to keep memories alive. Altarxito allows families to gather, share stories, and pass traditions down in a simple yet powerful way.

What we want people to know?
Altarxito is an invitation:
To honor those who came before us
To celebrate life through memory
To bring the essence of Día de Muertos into any home, office, place…
More than decoration, it is a living tradition—one that transcends geography, language, and background.
Because in the end, love doesn’t disappear. It transforms.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
My father was Mexican born in Jalapa, Veracruz and my mother was born in a small town called El Tiemblo, in Spain. I grew up with both cultures and I love them. The Day of the Dead was also born thanks to the union of the two cultures, Mexican and Spanish.
