Today we’d like to introduce you to Andra MOORE.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My name is Andra Moore, owner of Pets and Moore, I have been boarding and grooming pets in the San Marcos area for over 34 years!
At a very young age, I rescued all types of critters, providing homes for them and developing what was to become an enduring love for animals. I attended Texas State University, where I received my Bachelor of Science in Animal Sciences. In 1992 I opened Pets and Moore, a trusted facility that people could bring their pets to have their own little vacation while they are away. Over the past 30+ years, Pets and Moore has expanded to include a range of dock diving water sports and pool rentals. (K9 Water World). I also often work closely with the local shelters and rescue organizations to help house and place pets in loving homes. Pets and Moore has been voted Best Kennels of Hays County in 2023 and has had an A+ rating from the Better Business Bureau for over 18 years. My mission is to provide quality care to all animals in my community and give local pets a place to call home away from home!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Building up any business is not an easy task. Ther are many factors that go into turning an idea into a successful operation. When I first started talking about creating Pets and Moore, it was 1989, and my friends and family were skeptical about it, thinking my passion for animal care was more than a hobby, and of how much one must take to start an operation from the ground up, let alone a single woman during that period of time. However, I knew this was my calling in life. I started working an entry level delivery job and saved up enough money to take out a loan to buy the land where Pets and Moore currently resides. Once I had the land, I had to save up enough money to begin the layout for my building design. Fast forward to today and Pets and Moore is thriving with 12 wonderful, caring employees and a facility which has tripled in size to include new onsite rental facilities and services.
As you know, we’re big fans of Pets and Moore. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Pets and Moore was opened 1992 with only 12 kennels, a small grooming area, and an office. Over the years, I have expanded to include more kennel space, a larger grooming salon, a separate, quieter wing of kennels for senior dogs, special needs dogs, and small dogs. We also have an event center for private rental and two pools for private rental with your dog. Coming summer 2026 we will have a third pool for private rental.
What are your plans for the future?
K9 Water World is opening a third pool this summer. It will be known by the name “Lawn Lagoon”. A private pool rental for dogs and their families.
