Today we’d like to introduce you to Benjamin Wong.
Hi Benjamin, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
After earning my Doctorate in Piano Performance from the University of Utah in 2020, I began searching for opportunities to continue my career in music. When a music school in Austin offered me a position, I made the bold decision to relocate and begin a new chapter.
After three fulfilling years of teaching, I felt called to build something of my own. I founded Dr. Benjamin Wong Piano Studio and transitioned into running my own studio, where I could fully realize my vision for high-level, conservatory-style piano education.
Today, I am grateful to serve over 50 students each week from my home studio in the Ranch at Brushy Creek community. This journey would not have been possible without the unwavering support of my family—my wife and our three wonderful daughters.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
While working at a music school, I had the security of a steady stream of students and a reliable salary. Choosing to become independent meant stepping away from that stability into uncertainty. It was a significant risk, especially with the responsibility of supporting a family of five, not knowing whether I would be able to build a full studio or generate consistent income.
Having lived in the area for less than three years, my professional network was still developing, and in the early stages I received very few leads. Additionally, the nature of private music instruction presents its own challenges—student enrollment can fluctuate, and the industry is not immune to economic changes.
It was this combination of uncertainty, financial pressure, and the inherent instability of the field that made building and sustaining my studio particularly challenging.

Founded in October 2024 in North Austin, Texas, Dr. Benjamin Wong Piano Studio offers premium, conservatory-style piano instruction for students of all ages and levels. The studio is dedicated to providing structured, high-level training for those seeking both artistic depth and technical excellence, with a proven record of success in local and international competitions.
As a teacher, I am known for my patience, my ability to create a positive and supportive learning environment, and my expertise in technique and musical interpretation. What sets me apart is my ability to connect with each student—meeting them where they are, understanding how they think, and guiding them through complex musical concepts in a clear and accessible way.
Above all, I take the greatest pride in my students—their growth, their discipline, and their achievements, whether through daily practice, competition success, or their development into thoughtful and expressive musicians.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
At present, I teach from my home studio. My long-term vision is to create a dedicated space with a small performance hall, where students can share music with one another and grow through regular performance opportunities.
