Today we’d like to introduce you to Elisa Avalos.
Hi Elisa, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Born in Mexico City, I moved to Texas 16 years ago, thrilled to call Austin home. I began my career as a Real Estate Agent here in Austin six years ago having more that 15 years of experience in Mortgage and Customer service, graduated with a degree of Business Administration and with a Marketing Master’s Degree.
We moved to Austin because of my husband’s job, so I was having a really successful full-time Job in Mexico as a Customer Manager and suddenly I was a full-time Mom here, but I never gave up. Here in Austin, I worked in my kids school, working at the school helped me to be more confident with English. I started just as a Substitute teacher and then I became a Lead Teacher really fast. Growing friends and family in Austin was wonderful. I loved to teach and I was really happy but felt I needed to go back to my passion. Then I decided to get my Real Estate License. I loved customer service and selling, you’re selling every single moment of your life, every time you are talking you are selling and you are showing yourself as you really are. I set a time frame to work at the school, having kids and husband and getting my Real Estate License and I made it. I’m not going to lie.
When I started I feared to fail, but every time I had a breakdown I look back and see how much I grew and every time my success was bigger than my fear. I started in a big company and I benefited from the training, I learned a lot and I made a lot of friends on the way, but after two years felt the need for a change then I switched companies after two years, never regret this change, sometimes you need more motivation and a Company that helps you grow more according to your goals and to better serve my Clients. I love to plan everything, then you realize not everything will aligned with the plan and you have to be ready to change, this is life so in Real Estate it’s more likely to be prepared for a change and you have make sure you realize that you need to be in your Client shoes, is not your decision is a team work and your Client needs, also you have to Interact with several people during each transaction and your goal is to keep everything in balance even everything is falling apart you are the one to keep the perfect balance and help your Client to hit their goal. Focus on my client’s needs help me every time and brings everyone to a Happy ending.
Don’t fear challenges is my New word every time, you never know if you will be better if you don’t try it first. I’m feeling really happy and I look back every time I feel weak because I know how I got here. Work hard and give the love and passion in everything you do and that will guide you to work better with your Clients and they will feel confident with you as a team.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Leaving my home country, my family and friends was a challenge, I have to adapt to a different culture. In my country we’re used to give a lot of explanation for everything, every single process is a little bit more complicated so I have to change my mindset for every single aspect of life, here we don’t need to explain every single thing you can just say “NO” and it’s ok, so that sounds easy but really you have to change your mindset. Today I feel grateful to be in a place where I can share my culture and be able to learn from different cultures as well. I have meet wonderful people and learned a lot from them.
Another struggle I had was switching Real Estate Company. It was a hard decision for me, I had everything in a big Company but I felt lost and not motivated at all, so I decided to move and it was the best decision I made. They helped me to grow a lot, my brokers are with me every time I need advice or for cheer up as well. It’s important to find a team that is aligned with you and your goals. I learned that we always need a change and you never know if it is the best fit until you try.
