Exploring Life & Business with Elise Krentzel of EK Editorial & Coaching

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elise Krentzel.

Elise Krentzel

Hi Elise, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
My life has been one action-packed adventure. Born and raised in NYC, I have lived and raised VC for my businesses in the USA, Japan, Switzerland, and the Netherlands. I started as a music journalist while still a teenager and toured with Kiss in Japan at 19 as part of the press entourage, fortunate enough to witness the band’s stratospheric rise to stardom. I then founded the first foreign-owned talent and booking agency in Tokyo:

  • Introduced punk rock to the Japanese market
  • Became the youngest-ever Bureau Chief for Billboard Magazine
  • DJ’ed as the first foreigner on FM Tokyo

Stateside, I ran a marketing facilitation agency between major Japanese brands, introducing them to the US marketing, including Kirin Beer, Shiseido Cosmetics, Wacoal Lingerie, and Mitsubishi Motors’ first car sold in America. From there, I dabbled in multimedia and, with partners based in Switzerland, raised venture capital to start Europe’s first digital travel publishing company using GPS on CD-ROMs before the internet existed for the masses. That led me to The Netherlands, where our investors were located. Throughout my life, I have written and contributed to magazines, print, and online, and along the way, I became a published author. My memoir, Under My Skin – Drama, Trauma & Rock n’ Roll, was #1 in 9 categories on Amazon last year upon its release. I moved back stateside in 2008 and made Austin my home in 2011. Since then, I’ve run a PR agency that functioned more like a combo management consulting + publicity firm than strictly media-driven PR. I was the first Director of Digital Operations for one of Europe’s leading management consulting firms, Cap Gemini in France. I blazed trails by creating the leading supermarket chain in The Netherlands’ first online sales portal and the first-ever car trading website. For years, I’ve focused on sharing my knowledge of building personal brands through book coaching and online writing courses to teach people how to write non-fiction and fiction – management, memoir, legacy, how-to, etc.

Alright, let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
Smooth, Lol! As a visionary serial entrepreneur who generates ideas and brings them to fruition, I chose a rocky path. That comes with the territory. When I was younger, the hours dedicated to my businesses were mad, over 60 hours a week, but I didn’t care; I had stamina and fun along the way. Some struggles were real. For example, once my company, Bopp Media (travel guides on CD-ROM with GPS), held its first press conference, the reporters said that a former contractor had stolen our Dbase and was attempting to usurp our invention. We took that guy to court and won, yet the emotional drain was real. When the going gets tough, it takes resilience and belief in one’s ability to keep the course, not give in to fears or doubts, and to continue. Of course, one must know when to give in if something is not working or proving viable.

What sets me apart? Read what others have to say:
“I talked about writing a book for ten years until I met Elise Krentzel, who began my incredible new writing journey. In our second session, I was writing. E is fantastic, patient, kind, and direct when she needs to be (I might be a tad hard-headed). I have never felt alone. Her presence is powerful, and I can “h” ar her” “in my head when I am stuck or if I am trying to shortcut the story. I look forward to continuing working with Elise as I have a few more books in me. I ever considered writing or are looking for someone who knows their stuff and is an awesome teacher — Elise is the end of your search.” Will Simpson – Author of You’ve Got to Lose to Win” “has thought about what it would take to write a book for as long as I can remember. Lise proved thoughtful, knowledgeable, and professional. he offered guidance throughout the discovery process. I appreciate how she challenged me and never gave up on me – even when I began doubting my ability to put my thoughts on paper. highly recommend her services to anyone who has always wanted to write.” She will help you determine if the story is within you and how best to bring it to the surface.” Phyllis Snodgrass – CEO, Missionpreneur, Mentor, Strategic Advisor & Coach, Former CEO of Habitat for Humanity Texas.

I am most proud of my clients’ achievements when they prove to themselves what I initially perceived – latent talent and ability yet to be excavated because that is my job. I’m also proud of several brands I’ve helped to launch over the years, whether from scratch or scaling them to international heights. My brand is the for rebels. If you go against the norm, I’m your gal. I have a rock ‘n’ roll spirit that will never cease.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the COVID-19 crisis?
Yes, COVID-19 was fantastic for my business as it allowed people to stop, breathe, think, and write. The solitude and quiet engendered all of us to shut out the constant noise pollution. I had wonderful clients and finished my book during that time. But don’t be lethargic. It ain’t “over” over.
