Exploring Life & Business with Ernest Trujillo of REV Mortgage

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ernest Trujillo

Hi Ernest, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was born and raised in San Antonio, and for much of my childhood, my family moved from apartment to apartment. Back then, I believed homeownership was something only the wealthy could achieve—a dream that felt out of reach for families like mine.

I never set out to work in real estate. In fact, I got into the mortgage industry by accident. While working as a bank teller and searching for new opportunities, I came across a major bank focused on serving veterans. I applied for three different roles and landed an interview—though I had no idea it was for a mortgage processor position. At the time, I didn’t know the first thing about mortgages or what it really took to own a home.

Over my seven years there, I not only gained invaluable knowledge about home loans, but I also accomplished something I once thought was impossible—I purchased my first home with my wife, Rose Pompa. That experience changed everything for me. I saw firsthand that homeownership wasn’t just for the wealthy; it was possible for people like me, for families like mine.

That realization sparked a deeper purpose. I made the decision to leave the banking world and become a Mortgage Loan Officer, dedicated to helping others achieve what I once thought was out of reach. My mission is to break the myths around homeownership and show people that it’s not just a dream—it’s possible for everyone.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road hasn’t been smooth, but every challenge has been a lesson that shaped me into the Loan Officer I am today. The first two years in this business are tough—you have to be mentally and financially prepared to plant seeds without seeing the harvest right away. It takes time to build trust, grow your network, and establish yourself.

Starting out in 2022 and 2023—some of the most challenging years in real estate—was a trial by fire. Interest rates were rising, the market was shifting, and many people were hesitant to buy. There were months when my wife had to carry the weight of our finances, and I’ll always be grateful for her unwavering support. I wouldn’t be where I am today without her.

But through it all, I learned that this industry is what you make of it. There will always be people who need guidance, who need someone to walk them through the home-buying process with patience and integrity. That’s why I choose to lead with a servant’s heart, trusting that if I focus on helping others, God will take care of the rest.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I’m a Mortgage Loan Officer at REV Mortgage—short for Reaching Every Veteran. We specialize in VA home loans, but we proudly assist non-veterans as well. San Antonio is known as Military City, yet an eye-opening 85% of veterans in the U.S. don’t use their VA home loan benefits. We’re here to change that.

What sets us apart is our commitment to education. We don’t just help you get a mortgage—we equip you with a financial game plan to set you up for long-term success. Whether you’re ready to buy now or need guidance on how to get there, we’ll walk you through every step. At REV Mortgage, we have a saying—our war cry, just like in the military: “Until you are home, we got you! UYAH!”

One of the things I’m most proud of is the way we empower first-time homebuyers. Through seminars, detailed homebuyer guides, and one-on-one education, I make sure my clients truly understand the process of owning a home. My motto is simple: Believe it will happen. Because with the right knowledge and the right team behind you, homeownership isn’t just a dream—it’s a reality waiting to happen

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Something that might surprise people about me is that before stepping into the mortgage industry, I had a creative background in graphic arts. I’ve always had a passion for design, whether it’s creating video content, crafting graphics for my events, or helping others stand out with their marketing.

At REV Mortgage, we have an incredible marketing team, and I love brainstorming with them on ways to make the homebuying process more captivating, educational, and easy to understand. Applying for a mortgage doesn’t have to be boring—we can make it an engaging and enjoyable journey.

To me, a home is more than just a financial investment—it’s a form of art. Every home tells a story, and just like art, it’s a reflection of the people who live in it. That’s why I bring creativity into my work, making the mortgage process not only smooth but also an exciting step toward building something beautiful.
