Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeannie Kakizaki.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
# The Work of Becoming: How My Own Healing Became a Life of Service
Long before I founded The Hive Chiropractic & Wellness, I experienced the kind of change that quietly divides a life into two parts: who you were before and who you became after.
In 2004, while working in a Network Care office in Santa Fe, New Mexico, I began receiving care myself. At the time, I had been dependent on antidepressant medication since I was a senior in high school. I had lost connection to a life I once took great pride in: 4.0 student, student body president and Moscow, Idaho’s Junior Miss. I had also lost access to something that once felt intrinsic to who I was: my photographic memory.
Within my first week of care, something remarkable happened. I was able to discontinue the medication. After six months of care my photographic memory also returned.
But that experience gave me more than relief. It gave me direction.
Healing was no longer simply about reducing symptoms or getting through the day. My experience became evidence that the body may hold possibilities far beyond what most of us have been taught to expect from it.
That realization eventually led me back to school, into the chiropractic profession and toward a career devoted to helping others discover the intelligence within their own bodies.
Today, I am the founder and owner of The Hive Chiropractic & Wellness, a practice built around the idea that meaningful change begins within the nervous system. The name feels fitting. A hive is alive, responsive and interconnected. Every part contributes to the health and intelligence of the whole. That same understanding informs the way I approach care.
I do not see the body as a collection of isolated problems. I see a living system that is constantly receiving information, adapting to its environment and organizing around its experiences. My work invites people to become active participants in that system.
I have more than 22 years of experience in Network Care. Before earning my Doctor of Chiropractic degree with honors from Life Chiropractic College West in 2014, I had already built a business serving clients in six chiropractic offices throughout the San Francisco Bay Area as a professionally trained Somato Respiratory Integration Wellness Educator.
That path gave me an unusual foundation. I entered chiropractic school not simply with an interest in the work, but with years of experience witnessing how people change when they develop a deeper relationship with their bodies.
My work has since taken me far beyond the walls of my own practice. I have taught workshops across the country as part of the EpiEnergetics® teaching staff, helping people explore new possibilities in their bodies and their lives.
I am trained at the highest level of Network Care, am advanced care certified and teach NetworkSpinal® to both practicing chiropractors and aspiring doctors. I also serve as an AlchemE® Mentor and have been an adjunct faculty member at Life Chiropractic College West.
Yet titles alone do not explain why this work matters so deeply to me.
At the center of it is a personal understanding of what it feels like to want more from life while not having the internal capacity to reach it. Many of the people who find their way to The Hive are intelligent, driven and deeply committed to growth. They are entrepreneurs, parents, leaders, creatives and people who spend their lives caring for others.
From the outside, they may appear successful and capable. Inside, however, they often feel overwhelmed, disconnected or stuck in patterns they cannot think their way out of. They have read the books. They have tried the protocols. They may have visited countless practitioners in search of the missing piece.
My work begins with a different question. What if your body is not failing?
What if it has simply become highly skilled at organizing around stress, protection and survival?
Through NetworkSpinal®, Somato Respiratory Integration and the broader principles of EpiEnergetics®, I help people recognize the strategies their nervous systems have developed and access new ones. The goal is not to force the body to change. It is to help the system become more aware, adaptable and resourceful. This distinction is central to my philosophy. I am not interested in asking people to become better at tolerating lives that no longer fit them. I want to help them develop the capacity to meet life differently.
That work can be subtle, but its influence reaches into everything: how we breathe, move, make decisions, respond to pressure, connect with others and imagine the future.
It is also the work I live myself.
Outside the office, I am a wife, a mother of two and a woman whose life is grounded in faith, family and community. You might find me exploring local farmers markets and restaurants with my family, reading about natural parenting and low tox living, discussing the latest fiction selection with my book club or connecting with my teaching colleagues over Zoom.
I love going to church, serving my community and being a mama.
Those parts of my life matter because my story is not about escaping ordinary life in pursuit of transformation. It is about becoming more available for ordinary life in a way that makes it truly extraordinary.
More present for my family. More connected to my purpose. More capable of serving the people who enter my practice looking for a possibility they may not yet have words for.
The Hive has grown from my own turning point into a community centered on change, connection and human potential. Its mission reflects the path that brought me here: to serve as a continual catalyst for people who are called to create meaningful lives and contribute something valuable to the world.
I understand that calling because I have felt it myself.
My journey did not begin with a business plan or a carefully mapped career. It began with an experience inside my own body that challenged what I believed was possible. I followed that experience with curiosity, discipline and a willingness to let it change the direction of my life.
Now, more than two decades after I first encountered Network Care, I help others listen for their own turning points. I do not promise them a different life overnight. I help them build the capacity to participate more fully in the life that is already asking something of them.
For me, healing is not simply the absence of struggle.
It is the return of possibility.
And possibility, once felt, has a way of changing everything.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There have been so many struggles, both personally and professionally.
I lost my mom during my final year of chiropractic school, just four months before I got married. Shortly after graduating, I became pregnant with my first child. I was still learning how to live with the grief of losing my mother while navigating pregnancy, birth and becoming a mother without her beside me.
In 2019, I began feeling an undeniable pull to move. My husband and I had lived in the same California apartment for 13 years, but something within me kept saying that it was time to take our family somewhere new.
Around that same time, my mother in law’s health began to decline significantly. We relocated from California to Texas and moved her from New Jersey into our home. Soon afterward, she was diagnosed with stage four breast cancer and given three to six months to live. We were incredibly grateful to have five and a half more years with her before she passed away on Halloween of last year.
During those years, my husband and I also experienced two pregnancy losses back to back. We sold the successful practice we had built in California, relocated our family and started over from the ground up in Texas during the pandemic.
There were many moments when the next step was not clear. I had to learn how to build a business while grieving, care for my family while creating something new and trust the direction of my life before I could see where it was leading.
Those experiences changed me. They deepened my compassion and gave me a more honest understanding of resilience. I learned that strength is not about avoiding grief or pretending everything is fine. It is about developing the capacity to remain present with what life is asking of you, even when the path looks nothing like the one you planned.
The Hive was built within that season of loss, uncertainty, faith and reinvention. Its growth means so much to me because I know what it took to begin again. Every person we serve and every new community we enter reminds me that some of the most meaningful things we create can emerge from the chapters we never would have chosen.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about The Hive Chiropractic and Wellness Boutique?
The Hive Chiropractic & Wellness is a community centered on nervous system care, human potential and the belief that our bodies are capable of far more than we have been taught to expect from them.
We specialize in NetworkSpinal®, Somato Respiratory Integration and EpiEnergetics®. Our work helps people recognize how their nervous systems have learned to organize around stress, pressure and past experiences, then develop new strategies that support greater adaptability, energy, awareness and connection.
Many of the people who come to The Hive are entrepreneurs, parents, leaders, creatives and caregivers. They are intelligent, driven and deeply committed to their growth. From the outside, they may appear highly capable, but internally they often feel overwhelmed, depleted or stuck in patterns they cannot think their way out of. Many have already tried countless doctors, protocols and healing modalities, yet still sense that something is missing.
At The Hive, we begin with a different question: What if your body is not failing? What if it has simply become highly skilled at organizing around stress, protection and survival?
We do not approach the body as a collection of isolated problems. We see it as a living, intelligent system that is constantly receiving information and adapting to its experiences. Our work is not about forcing the body to change. It is about helping the nervous system become more aware, adaptable and resourceful so people can access more of their own capacity.
What sets The Hive apart is the depth of our experience and the way we integrate clinical care, education and personal transformation. I have more than 22 years of experience in Network Care and am trained at its highest level. In addition to serving people in my own practice, I teach NetworkSpinal® to practicing chiropractors and aspiring doctors. I am also an AlchemE® Mentor and have served as an adjunct faculty member at Life Chiropractic College West.
This work is deeply personal to me. My own experience with Network Care changed the direction of my life. It helped me recognize an intelligence and healing potential within my body that I did not know how to access before. That experience ultimately led me to become a chiropractor and create a space where others could discover what may be possible for them.
What began as one practice in Austin is now growing into something larger. We started out with one doc (me). And now have two incredible associates, an amazing office manager and an awesome client experience coordinator. We are still family run by myself and my husband and have expanded our reach beyond what we call now The Hive Headquarters.
We are expanding into South Austin, allowing us to bring The Hive experience to more individuals and families throughout the city. This location represents more than a new office. It is an opportunity to carry our culture, clinical excellence and commitment to extraordinary service into another community while preserving the personal connection that has always defined The Hive.
Our expansion journey has also taken us beyond Texas and into Utah. After connecting with people there through our events and Nervous System Upgrade experiences, it became clear that there was a community ready for this work. We are now bringing NetworkSpinal® care to both Riverton and Park City, with our Riverton location housed inside Upgrade Labs and visits offered in Park City as part of our growing Utah presence.
Expanding into Utah has asked us to think differently about what a chiropractic practice can look like. Rather than waiting for people to travel to us, we are creating new ways to bring high level nervous system care into communities where people are already invested in health, longevity, performance and personal growth.
I am especially proud that our growth has been relational and organic. We are not expanding simply to become bigger. We are expanding because people have experienced the work, shared it with others and asked us to bring The Hive closer to them.
Brand wise, that is what makes me most proud. The Hive has become more than a chiropractic office. It is a place where people feel seen, supported and invited into a more active relationship with their bodies and their lives. We care for individuals and families, provide educational and experiential workshops and offer mentorship for those who want to explore their growth more deeply.
The name The Hive reflects what we value. A hive is alive, responsive and interconnected. Every part contributes to the wellbeing and intelligence of the whole. We believe transformation does not happen in isolation. When one person becomes more present, adaptable and connected, that change reaches their family, their work and the communities they serve.
As we grow throughout Austin and into Utah, protecting that feeling of connection remains one of our highest priorities. No matter the location, we want people to know they are entering a space where they will be known, where their experience matters and where care is never reduced to a transaction.
What I want readers to know is that our work is not about becoming better at tolerating a life that no longer fits. It is about developing the capacity to meet life differently.
For us, healing is not simply the absence of struggle. It is the return of possibility. And when people gain greater access to their energy, awareness and choices, what becomes possible can extend far beyond the chiropractic table.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
People can work with me and The Hive in several ways. We offer NetworkSpinal® care at our Austin, South Austin, Riverton and Park City locations, along with Somato Respiratory Integration, AlchemE® Mentorship, nervous system upgrade assessments, immersive experiences and private concierge care.
I also accept a small number of private clients each year. These highly personalized partnerships allow me to serve individuals and families directly, as well as bring nervous system care to the communities they have built around their personal brands. This may include providing care, teaching or creating customized experiences at their events, private retreats and intimate gatherings.
We love collaborating with wellness centers, businesses, schools, community organizations and event leaders who want to bring meaningful conversations and experiences around nervous system capacity, adaptability, leadership and human potential to their communities. I am available for speaking engagements, workshops, corporate wellness experiences, retreats and customized events.
One of the most meaningful ways people can support us is by sharing our work with someone who may be searching for a different approach. Many of the people who find The Hive have already tried numerous doctors, protocols and healing modalities. A personal introduction can help someone discover a possibility they did not know existed.
As we continue growing throughout Austin and Utah, we are also excited to connect with aligned practitioners, community partners and doctors who feel called to contribute to this work.
