Today we’d like to introduce you to Kari Sneed.
Hi Kari, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I worked for MD Anderson for over 20 years. Once I retired, I knew I finally had an opportunity to do what I’ve wanted to do for a long time: open a boutique. I started small by having an online presence, but one day while scrolling through Facebook, I saw the cutest little building for rent. I called about it and have yet to look back. That was the beginning of KC Outfitter.
Please talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned. Looking back, has it been easy or smooth in retrospect?
For the most part, it’s been fairly smooth. I have learned so much in the last couple of years. I was lucky enough to have a close friend that wanted a part-time job, so it was easy hiring her and feeling confident in the person working with me.
Thanks for sharing that. So, you could tell us a bit more about your business.
I started KC Outfitter in 2020 but started my actual Storefront in February 2021. I started in a cute but small building on Pine Street but quickly grew out of it and was able to move into our present location at 815 Main St, Bastrop, Texas. The building is so unique. We love it. We specialize in cute, comfortable clothes for Women, Men, and Children. We also carry all things Bastrop and Texas. Spirit shirts, Mugs, books, and more. We are filling a need for Visitors and locals in that we can outfit each person, from Babies up to older adults. We try to have a variety that will please just about anyone that walks through the door. One thing that sets us apart is that we restock new things weekly. Almost every day, we have new things coming in. We want to keep it new and fresh each time you walk in. Whether that’s every week or once a month, you will find something new that wasn’t there the last time you visited. As of November of this year, we opened a second “sister store” called Sage and Co at 913 Main St. With the number of people moving in and visiting Bastrop. We felt the need for more Boutiques and shops downtown. Sage & Co is focused more on Home Goods, Gifts, and Name Brand clothing for women! I am excited to have my business in the Historic Down Town of Bastrop. I have been given the biggest welcome from Bastrop and everyone who comes in from surrounding communities.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
My advice for anyone looking to start a business is to do homework. Talk to people who own a business. Find your passion and go for it. It is hard work that you never get to take a break from, but if you love it, it’s so worth it.
