Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristina Orido
Hi Kristina, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I was born in London, England + raised primarily in Europe! My parents, Roland and Lovett travelled all over the world with my sister Simone and I (so thankful). Proud to be a military brat, thanks to my mom! We have been everywhere- from Paris to Milan, Barcelona + Seoul (just to name a few). My parents raised us to have a strong work ethic in order to achieve anything that we want to in this life! Besides my love for travels, I have always had a love for the beauty industry + an obsession with effortless, simplistic style. From my days at university into my adulthood- my fun, dramatic lashes have always been the topic of conversation. I mean, I love lashes, it’s just my thing- beauty was always my secret passion! After obtaining my undergraduate degree in Psychology at Texas State University-San Marcos, TX, I decided to pursue my love of fashion in my early 20s. As a former assistant wardrobe stylist for several years (and various jobs in between), I had the opportunity to learn about the beauty industry in depth, assisting on various photoshoots + working with beauty professionals in the city of Austin, TX. In 2008, I met my amazing husband Gabriel, got married, and entered into mom life! My beautiful daughter Khloe Amara + my sweet baby boy, Nathaniel definitely keep me young and on my toes! My children are my world. After I completed my MS in Clinical Psychology and working in the field for several years.. it was time to say goodbye, and enter into the world of beauty! I am so passionate about the beauty industry and I knew that I would eventually end up in that world! AMARA LASHES was created to bring all boss babes, mothers, grandmothers, military women, corporate career girls, ladies from all walks of life together, to support one another and celebrate being PHENOMENAL! It’s not just about lashes and makeup- it’s about creating a community of women who can come together, motivate and encourage one another. I love hosting beauty events in various cities (before COVID) I hope we get back to hosting events soon once conditions improve! Meeting with my customers means the world to me- it keeps me so inspired!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road!!! There are many times that I ask myself if I made the right decision, leaving my salaried career with benefits to pursue a business in beauty. There have been many tears and many many long nights but the struggle is worth it. There have been times when I have lost clients because they no longer are able to purchase my product due to their budget. I have had other business owners talk down on my business when I thought we were looking out for each other. At the end of the day, you have to hype yourself up and know your worth. Always remember why you started!
