Exploring Life & Business with Linh Flores of Tran Flores Law

Today we’d like to introduce you to Linh Flores.

Hi Linh, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My story started on a sixteen-foot fishing boat in the South China Sea. My parents, two aunts, and I fled communist Vietnam when I was one year old. We escaped Vietnam with a couple dozen other people. I was the youngest on the boat. After being rescued at sea and living in refugee camps in Malaysia and the Philippines for over a year, my family was admitted into the United States as refugees. Growing up, I watched my parents juggle multiple jobs at once, learn a new language, navigate new social norms and customs, and scrap and save to build a new life in a world completely different from their native home. To say they are my heroes would be an understatement. Their strong work ethic, courage, and resilience are the priceless intangible heirlooms they have passed down to me and my brothers. My passion for advocacy and my protective nature were born from being my parents’ voice, interpreting for them, completing paperwork, and standing up for them when they faced discrimination.

I didn’t practice immigration law right out of law school. I worked for the Department of Navy as a civilian attorney and then in private practice in other areas of law before having the opportunity to practice immigration law. Once I started working on immigration cases under one of my mentors, I knew right away that that’s where God wanted me to use the skills and knowledge I had acquired. Going from being a refugee to an immigration attorney has been a full circle experience and God’s plan for my life. I relate to my clients on a personal level. I understand their fears, challenges, and dreams. It’s an incredible blessing and honor to come alongside individuals and families that remind me so much of my parents and my family. One of the best parts of my work is hearing the relief in clients’ voices when they realize that they’re not on this journey alone. They have a team that they can trust who has their best interests in mind.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a challenging but rewarding road. I have always been a risk-adverse person so resigning from a stable job to open my own law firm was not something I saw myself doing, but I felt a very strong calling to start my own immigration practice. God was calling me to step out in faith and trust Him. The first year and half were tough. I had moved to Texas less than a year before opening my practice so I had no name recognition and no professional network in Texas to lean on. I had to quickly learn about marketing, sales, and how to hire and train employees. I drained my savings, but slowly the phone started ringing. It took awhile to get the first few clients, but once I successfully completed the first cases, clients began referring their friends and family. I saw God’s hand over our work as we achieved approvals in very complicated and difficult cases. Case by case, we built a reputation as a firm that, despite our small size, achieves big wins for our clients.

As you know, we’re big fans of Tran Flores Law. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Tran Flores Law is a boutique immigration law firm located in Round Rock, Texas with individual and corporate clients nationwide. We focus on helping clients petition for loved ones, sponsor talented employees for their companies, acquire permanent resident status, obtain temporary status to pursue an education or create a new business in the U.S., apply for immigration waivers, and become U.S. citizens. We also handle a limited number of deportation defense cases. We are fortunate to serve clients from many different cultures and ethnicities with a special focus on serving the Vietnamese community. Our team is bilingual – English and Vietnamese. As a firm, what sets us apart are three main priorities.

Our first priority is educating our clients on their situation and their legal options. The immigrant community is especially vulnerable to scams often because of the language barriers and unfamiliarity with the US legal system. I want to help every person who schedules a consultation with me to understand their situation, know their options, and be empowered to make informed decisions.

Our second priority is providing detailed and personalized strategies for every case. We take the time to get to know our clients, their challenges, their goals, and their immigration histories so that we can develop a legal strategy that minimizes their risk and gives their case the greatest chance at success. We are in a period of time in the U.S. where successful outcomes in immigration cases are harder and harder to achieve. Lackluster, cookie-cutter approaches are not going to cut it and often jeopardize a person’s future.

Our third priority is ensuring that we provide excellent and proactive communication. Staying in communication with our clients, making sure that they know what’s going on in their case, and listening to their concerns are minimum standards at TFL. When a client entrusts us with their case, we take that trust very seriously and we want them to know that we genuinely care about them and their case.

We are incredibly proud to have helped clients attain security and a chance at a brighter future by helping them secure lawful immigration status in the U.S. for themselves, their families, and their employees.
