Exploring Life & Business with Mallory Beckwith of Therapy with Mallory PLLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mallory Beckwith.

Hi Mallory, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My mental health journey began in 2016 when I got sober from drugs and alcohol. During this time, I struggled with psychosis, mania, and depression. Over the course of a few years I stayed sober – however my mental health continued to decline. This is when I got diagnosed with bipolar disorder. It took me a while to stabilize on the correct medications, but eventually I evened out and started to feel better. Struggling with a bipolar diagnosis was the most difficult time in my life – I had suicidal thoughts and was hospitalized several times. After stabilizing, I then decided to get my masters degree in counseling from St. Edwards University in Austin, Texas so I could become a licensed counselor and help others on their mental health journey as well. For the first few years of my career, I helped individuals recover from bipolar disorder and substance use disorder. I later started specializing in helping individuals recover from complex post traumatic stress disorder (CPTSD) and narcissistic abuse. I found a huge need for this population and my practice began to grow. This is where I find myself helping others today.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The mental health challenges that I faced before I went back to school to get my masters degree were tumultuous to say the least. I completely lost touch with reality when I struggled with psychosis, and it took years of grounding and therapy to get back into reality after my extreme episodes. Looking back on it, if I would’ve just had a mild case of depression or anxiety, I never would have dedicated my life to helping others who suffer from mental illness. What I went through had to be heavy and difficult, it had to hold much weight in order for me to realize what God’s calling on my life was.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Therapy with Mallory PLLC?
Therapy with Mallory PLLC is the private therapy practice that I started in order to help others heal and recover from mental illness. I now completely specialize on helping individuals recover from narcissistic abuse and complex post traumatic stress disorder (CPTSD). I’m trained in intermediate level hypnosis and am IFS informed, which are very useful modalities that help my clients regulate their nervous system, and also reduce trauma triggers.

One thing that sets me apart from other therapists is that I’m also an author who writes on faith and healing. I self published my first book titled “Bipolar Flames: Escaping the New Age and Redemption Through Christ”, which is a memoir on how I stabilized from bipolar disorder, got sober from addiction, and escaped New Age spirituality, which was causing my psychosis to go deeper and deeper. I am currently writing a book on the intersection of faith, healing, and psychology for those recovering from narcissistic abuse trauma. My upcoming book helps Christians understand how psychological patterns and spiritual formation intersect, so they can experience healing that is both clinically informed and biblically grounded.

I would love for readers to sign up for my biweekly newsletter, which provides inspiration and healing tips for recovery from narcissistic abuse – therapywithmallory.com/freebie – If anyone would like to set up a 15 minute phone consultation with me to discuss therapy or really anything at all, they can reach out through my website therapywithmallory.com

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
My advice for anybody just starting out in a new career is to be patient. We live in a microwave society where everyone gets everything they want instantaneously. We get Amazon packages right away, we get access to any and all information we need with the touch of a button, and you can get any meal that you want DoorDashed to your house within an hour without even leaving your couch. Starting a new career doesn’t happen that quickly. It takes lots of time, energy, faith, prayer, and practice. Even now I’m not exactly where I want to be today, but as long as I keep my head down, keep doing the work I need to do, and put one foot in front of another I will accomplish anything and everything with God’s help.
