Exploring Life & Business with Manuel Christoffel of Working Strategies, LLC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Manuel Christoffel.

Hi Manuel, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My very first career was in the culinary world. I love food, I love cooking. I have learnt a lot in a professional kitchen environment – deliver a high quality product, regardless of time of day, day of the week, or pressure. I eventually got a global degree and moved into marketing for a startup, then software sales for Bertelsmann before moving to the US in 2002. For me, the journey has always been about understanding what makes people tick and translating that into tangible business value. I spent my early US career building a foundation at large, rigorous organizations like Dell, ADP, and American Express. That environment was a masterclass in the mechanics of enterprise business, but I quickly realized my strongest skill – and honestly, where I had the most fun – was at the intersection of customer success (internal or external) and marketing / brand loyalty building. I loved the challenge of moving beyond a transactional mindset to actively partnering with clients for long-term growth, retention, and loyalty / evangelism.

That realization naturally pulled me toward high-velocity, innovative spaces here in Austin. Over the years, stepping into roles with companies like Bazaarvoice, Firstup, woom Bikes USA, and Rhinory, my focus has been on shaping how organizations listen to, advocate for, and scale alongside their customers. Loyalty is a two way street. If I look at where I am today after twenty years in the space, I’d say I’m exactly where I want to be: solving complex strategic puzzles for businesses, but keeping it completely grounded in building genuine, human-first relationships, bringing a fresh set of eyes to organizations as a consultant.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I am German. I have a Spanish first name, a French last name. I live in Texas (with a 7 year stint in NYC). If I had a dollar for every WW2 ‘joke’ or derogatory comment, I’d definitely have a few hundred dollars. As an immigrant, I’ve alway been a bit suspicious of anyone who claims it’s been a completely smooth road. The truth is, my biggest personal and professional leaps have always come from periods of significant friction. One of the most defining challenges for me was navigating the cultural whiplash of moving to the US, transitioning from massive, highly structured legacy enterprises into the hyper-growth, agile tech scene here in Austin. When you spend your early career executing established playbooks, stepping into a space where you are essentially building the plane while flying it can be incredibly daunting. I had to unlearn a lot of rigid processes and learn how to thrive in ambiguity.

On a more strategic level, a persistent struggle throughout my career in customer success and (loyalty, retention, growth) marketing has been fighting the ‘reactive’ mindset. Early on, I had to learn how to aggressively advocate for CS to have a proactive, strategic seat at the executive table, rather than allowing it to be treated as a glorified escalation desk. That required pushing back, managing up, and sometimes fundamentally changing how a company views its revenue engine. Those battles weren’t easy, but they taught me how to influence without authority, how to lead through constant change, and how to build resilient teams that don’t just survive friction, but actually use it to drive innovation and deliver results.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
While I operate a standalone agency, the ‘business’ I bring to any organization as a leader is focused on one core mission: transforming customer success into a proactive, strategic growth engine. My specialty lies right at the intersection of marketing, operations, customer success, product / dev, and account management. For over two decades, I’ve partnered with companies to design customer journeys that don’t just retain clients, but actively turn them into vocal advocates and long-term revenue drivers.

What sets my approach apart is the dual perspective I’ve been fortunate enough to build. Having cut my teeth at legacy institutions like American Express, Dell, and ADP, I deeply understand operational scale, process, and rigor. But my time in Austin’s high-velocity tech ecosystem, with companies like Bazaarvoice, woom Bikes USA and Firstup, taught me how to be scrappy, move fast, and innovate. I strive to bring the discipline of a Fortune 500 company paired with the agility of a startup builder. Ultimately, I’m known for connecting the dots between what a customer authentically needs and how a business sustainably scales. I’ve also been fortunate to partner with brands like British Airways, F1, Red Bull, Hilton, Grammys, NBA, Jaguar USA, to name just a few.

Brand-wise, I am most proud of my reputation as a fiercely collaborative, human-first leader. The teams I’ve built and the client relationships I’ve nurtured are always rooted in transparency and mutual respect, transparency and success. What I’d want your readers – and prospective clients – to know is that I don’t believe in purely transactional relationships. Whether I’m stepping in to optimize a post-sales lifecycle or guiding a team through a complex pivot, my goal is always to create sustainable value that lasts long after the initial handshake. I believe in service leadership and elevating people.

What were you like growing up?
I was a bit of a chameleon growing up: part nerd (hours spent at the library, reading, science experiments, etc), part ‘tough guy’, playing American Football, boxing, martial arts. I suppose it’s fair to say that I wasn’t your average German kid growing up, I had little interest in soccer or tennis, and I am allergic to beer and wine. I’ve always valued true, deep friendships over superficial acquaintanceships.
