Exploring Life & Business with Marsha Stephanson of Cater to Mom

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marsha Stephanson.

Hi Marsha, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Cater to Mom was born from my own experience with motherhood. Like so many new moms, I quickly learned that while there is so much attention placed on preparing for the baby, there is often far less focus on the person who just gave birth. I experienced firsthand how easy it is for a mother’s needs to become secondary while everyone is focused on the new baby.

That realization stayed with me and eventually inspired me to create Cater to Mom.

I wanted to build something that reminded moms that they deserve to be cared for, too. What began as an idea rooted in supporting mothers has grown into a business centered around thoughtfully curated care packages and monthly subscription boxes designed to remind moms to slow down, take a moment for themselves, and know they are not alone.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, absolutely not! And if any business owner tells you they have not experienced any bumps along the road, they are lying. LOL. Like many business owners, I’ve had to learn as I go, wear multiple hats, make small pivots, and navigate the challenges of building a business while also balancing motherhood, family, and life. But seeing the messages from moms and gift-givers who tell me how much a Cater to Mom box meant to someone during a difficult or exhausting season reminds me why I started.

We’ve been impressed with Cater to Mom, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Cater to Mom is a postpartum care and wellness brand created with one simple belief: when everyone is busy catering to the baby, someone needs to remember to cater to Mom.

We specialize in thoughtfully curated postpartum care packages and monthly subscription boxes designed specifically for mothers. Each box is filled with a combination of comforting, practical, and indulgent products that encourage moms to slow down, recharge, and take care of themselves during a season when their own needs can easily get pushed aside. We also offer gifts for the people who want to show a new mom that she is seen, supported, and appreciated.

What sets Cater to Mom apart is that we aren’t simply putting together a collection of products and calling it a care package. Every box is intentionally curated around a theme and the emotional and physical experience of motherhood. I think about the mom opening the box after a long night, the mom who hasn’t had a moment to herself, or the mom who may simply need a reminder that she matters, too. I want every product and every detail to feel like a little exhale.

Another part of the brand that I’m especially proud of is our commitment to supporting small and women-owned businesses. Whenever possible, I love discovering brands created by other entrepreneurs and giving their products a place inside our boxes. It creates a ripple effect of women supporting women while allowing our customers to discover products they may not have found otherwise.

Over the years, Cater to Mom has also grown beyond the physical products. At its heart, it is a reminder that motherhood should not mean losing yourself. Self-care doesn’t always have to look like a spa day or an hour alone. Sometimes it looks like a warm cup of tea, a cozy blanket, a few quiet minutes in the shower, or simply receiving something that says, “I see you.”

I’m most proud of the brand we’ve built around that message. After nearly eight years in business, I’m proud that Cater to Mom has remained true to its original purpose while continuing to evolve. We aren’t just celebrating the arrival of a baby, we’re celebrating the woman who became a mother and reminding her that she deserves care, attention, and celebration, too.

Ultimately, I want readers to know that Cater to Mom is about more than what’s inside the box. It’s about making moms feel seen. It’s about giving someone an opportunity to say, “I haven’t forgotten about you.” And it’s about changing the way we think about postpartum care so that caring for Mom becomes just as important as preparing for baby.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
Something many people may not know about me is that before I became an entrepreneur, I served in the U.S. Air Force. I joined at 18 years old and served for several years before deciding to go to school full-time and stay home with my first child.

My military experience shaped me in ways I didn’t fully realize at the time. It taught me discipline, resilience, accountability, and how to keep moving forward even when things don’t go according to plan. Those lessons have carried over into entrepreneurship more than I ever expected.

People often see the heart and nurturing side of Cater to Mom, but there is also a very determined, structured, and resilient side of me behind the brand. Building a business for nearly eight years has required all of those qualities.

I also think it’s interesting that my path went from serving in the military to earning a degree in Human Resources Management, becoming a mother, and ultimately creating a business centered around caring for mothers. None of those things necessarily looked connected when I was living them, but looking back, I can see how each chapter prepared me for the next one.
