Exploring Life & Business with Roger Pecina of Eve Vehicles Corporation

Today we’d like to introduce you to Roger Pecina.

Hi Roger, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hello, my name is Roger, and I am super passioniate about flying robots also known as drones. I first started working with drones as an undergrad at the University of Texas-Pan American where I led the team of students that built that school’s first operational quadrotor about ten years ago. Later in my professional career I product development consulting around Texas. I had the oppotunity to work at a few drone start-ups in Austin and later became the Lead Mechanical Engineer at Guinn Partners. Working for an industry icon like Colin Guinn was amazing and I had tons of fun designing products at his operation. I had the opportunity to co-design (w/ Eric Davis and Robert Kovacs) the Gel Blaster Surge while at Guinn Partners which is now sold at Wal-Marts and Targets nation-wide. I also designed a STEM drone kit that is built from wood panels and rubber-bands.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road definitely has not been linear. Somewhere along the way I realized that if you really want something, it will happen. Often times, it will take more work than you originally thought and it may not happen as you expect, but it will happen if you persist and have resilience.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
After moonlighting at eve Vehicles for almost a full year, I left my last job to work on the start-up full-time. At eve Vehicles Corporation, we make drone network systems for the coming drone service economy.  We design, manufacture, and integrate American-made drone network systems for public safety, military, and enterprise applications. We have built a really exciting drone platform called the QROW which has the ability to autonomously launch, dock and charge in a local aerial network (LAN) where we position its Nest stations throughout an enviroment. The QROW can also perch on building rooftops to conserve energy. We are developing our alpha test network at the University of Texas’ J.J. Pickle Research Campus.

Networking and finding a mentor can have a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Austin has a great start-up community with tons of events. Get dialed into these events and start networking.
