Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I grew up in northern Minnesota surrounded by nature, and that connection never left me. I moved to Texas about eleven years ago, but the pull toward plants, clean living, and holistic wellness stayed with me the whole time.
I started making my own botanical skincare in 2010, mostly out of necessity. I wanted products that were pure, non-toxic, and actually worked. Over the years, those formulas got more refined, and the people around me kept asking where they could get them. In 2023, I turned that into Sunsejoy, a botanical skincare line built on waterless formulations, pure essential oils, and UV black glass packaging.
From there, things kept growing. I launched Thirdseer, an intention candle company, and I teach Nia dance here in Austin. All three businesses live under one roof: Third Sun Wellness Studio LLC. My work is my philosophy. Everything I make is plant-based, vegan, and free from harsh chemicals. I want people to feel good about what they put on their bodies and in their spaces.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The biggest challenge has been time, plain and simple. I work a full-time day job, run two businesses, teach Nia dance, and at the end of all that I am still a mom, a wife, a dog mom, and someone who actually wants to show up for her girl friends. There are only so many hours.
Building Sunsejoy has meant getting really intentional about when and how I work. Early mornings, late nights, a stolen hour here and there. Some weeks flow. Other weeks you just do what you can and give yourself grace about the rest. That balance is something I am always working on.
We’ve been impressed with Sunsejoy, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Sunsejoy does two things: makes botanical skincare and teaches people about essential oils. Both come from the same place.
The skincare line is small-batch and waterless, built around botanical oils, essential oils, and earth-derived ingredients. Everything is bottled in UV-protective black glass. No synthetic fragrance, no harsh preservatives, nothing added just to fill space. I have been formulating this way since 2010, and the products reflect that time and care.
The Revive + Repair Body Butter is what most people know us for first. It has been our best seller since we opened, and it does exactly what the name says.
The workshops are where things get really fun. We offer Private blending experiences, Mini workshops, and Scent Bar events. People come in curious and leave confident. Learning the basics of essential oil blending is not complicated when someone walks you through it in a real way, and that is exactly the kind of experience we aim to create.
What sets us apart is honestly the depth behind it. This is not a brand I built from a trend. I built it from over a decade of personal practice, real ingredient research, and a frustration with products that marketed themselves as clean without earning it. Sunsejoy earns it.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Passion. I truly believe in what I make and what I teach, and I think that comes through in everything Sunsejoy puts out. This was never a business idea I stumbled into. It grew out of years of personal curiosity, real research, and a genuine desire to help people understand what they are putting on their bodies.
That kind of passion is hard to fake and hard to burn out of. It is what gets me up early and keeps me going late, even on the weeks when time is tight and everything feels like a lot.
