Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Stacey.
Hi Amber, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I fell in love with flowers and floral design during a teenage job at a local flower shop where I grew up in Wisconsin. It stayed a favorite hobby of mine throughout my corporate career and motherhood. Several years later, while working weekends part time, I decided to freelance on my off days. Better opportunities kept coming, and that hustle quickly grew into the blooming independent business I operate today in Central Texas.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
People see the beautiful arrangements, but they don’t see the less fun side of the business. I’ve had to teach myself how to be an accountant, manage taxes, and handle social media on the fly. Dealing with perishable flowers is a constant balancing act, they are usually ordered for same-day delivery, so you have to stock what’s in demand without actually knowing what will be ordered, sometimes leading to loss. I even set up my own website because I wanted to be unique and use my own photos instead of generic stock images. Anyone can buy the same flowers, but I wanted people to see my actual work.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I don’t have a fancy shop or a big name, but I have been embraced by the community for being genuine and caring. Along with daily deliveries, I partner and collaborate with other local businesses, work with funeral homes directly for memorial tributes, and offer Bloom Bar cart rentals for events. Every arrangement is designed, named, and photographed by me. My hard work has led me to blossom by building personal connections, remembering my clients, and making sure their moments are perfect because I truly care about people.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was the youngest of five, the only girl with four older brothers. We didn’t have a lot, but I had a loving family. I watched my mom work two jobs, which led me to get my first job at just 13 years old and turned me into a hard worker. I was very girly, but I also loved being outside, sports, fishing, and music. Losing my parents early on taught me how to adapt, overcome, and problem solve. More than anything, it taught me that life can be cut short, so I choose to focus on happiness, having fun, and making memories with my children so they always remember me like I remember my parents.
