Today we’d like to introduce you to Christina Cruz
Christina, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Growing up, I was surrounded by creativity and entrepreneurship, thanks to my parents. My mother owned a curated gift shop, and my father was an interior designer, so I had a front-row seat to the dedication and attention to detail that go into crafting beautiful spaces. Despite this inspiring environment, I initially took a different route, spending over 15 years in corporate media sales. However, everything changed when I designed my first family home in Los Angeles—it reignited a passion I hadn’t fully explored. When my family and I relocated to Austin, I dove headfirst into a full home renovation, and that’s where I truly found my calling. These projects were the foundation of Christina Cruz Interiors.
For a while, I balanced my corporate job with my growing design passion, working nights and weekends for local clients and even some long-distance projects. After a year of juggling both worlds, I took the leap and left behind a successful 15-year career as a top executive to fully commit to my design firm. Nearly two years later, I couldn’t be happier. Today, I lead a talented team of six amazing women and work on incredible projects in Austin. My journey has taught me that it’s never too late to change paths and pursue your dreams.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have been plenty of highs and just as many lows on this journey. As a self-taught interior designer without formal schooling, it was crucial to me that I gained the knowledge and skills of a seasoned professional. I threw myself into books, podcasts, and partnered with experienced designers and contractors, eager to absorb everything I could. Every project, no matter the size, has been an opportunity to learn and grow. I’m incredibly grateful for the mentors who welcomed me into this industry; their guidance and support have been invaluable, and I wouldn’t be where I am today without them cheering me on along the way.
