Hidden Gems: Meet Dare Goodspeed of Daring Details Weddings

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dare Goodspeed.

Hi Dare, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
When I was about 12 I discovered there was a job that I could design, plan, and coordinate weddings. Although I didn’t really understand what all went into planning and making a wedding happen, I knew it sounded like my dream job. I had always loved weddings. The romance, the flowers, the dance party. It was all so dreamy and beautiful to me. As I got older I figured I needed to be more practical and choose something I could go to college for. I started at college, but didn’t love any of the classes I was in in a way that made me want to pursue a traditional career. I honestly felt a little lost, and like I didn’t know what my next steps were. At 21 I was a bridesmaid for a dear friend, her wedding ended up being greatly impacted by Covid in 2020. Since her maid of honor lived out of state I decided to make sure she still felt like she was getting the bridal experience by planning a virtual bridal shower, and a staycation bachelorette party. The day of her wedding I saw her wedding planner, Shauna, running around making sure the day was perfect. I could see her passion, love, and care for every detail of the wedding. When I looked at her creating the day my friend had dreamed for I knew that that is what I wanted to do, At the end of the night I decided I would ask if she was interested in hiring an intern to learn under her. She thankfully gave me her card and told me to send her resume! In my interview we clicked instantly, and the rest is history. I worked and studied under her for 3 years before deciding (with her full support) to launch into my own business. It’s been a beautfil, crazy, fun, whirlwind of 6 years in the industry and I wouldn’t have it any other way!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been smooth the entire ride. I dealt with a lot of self doubt about if I was capable at the beginning. Especially due to being so young when I started, it felt difficult to convince people that despite my age I was more than capable of making their big day happen. It also came with a lot of hard lessons, I haven’t always been the most organized when it comes to admin side of work, and I had to have some reality checks about how I needed to grow in that area. We also found out I was pregnant a week after I launched my business and 2 days before my husband started grad school. That came with so much I was unprepared for, but also taught me a lot about how to persevere and pivot.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I am a wedding planner and coordinator! I specialize in walking through the wedding planning and design process with couples who are getting married. Typically clients hire me right after they get engaged and I help them find everything they need to complete their wedding day vision. This is everything from the right florist for their budget and style, to what color glasses on the table, to what type of late night snack would their guests most enjoy. No detail is too small! Then of course after all the planning I coordinate the wedding weekend. I am there from wedding rehearsal to clean up at the end of the night when they have made their grand exit. I am always here for whatever my clients vision is. I love a unique, creative, personalized wedding and getting to help couples find what that means for them. I am proud of the relationships I make with my couples! I love feeling like friends by the end of the process. I would love people to know I travel anywhere and no idea is too weird or out there for me!

What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
I think we will start to see a lot more micro weddings, I even see that happening slowly now. I think post covid we all wanted to get out and share in big joyful celebrations with friends. As we continue to get further from that I predict there will be more highly intimate, elevated, micro weddings that are deeply personal to couples.
