Hidden Gems: Meet Jodi K Hill of Lucky Girl Music & Events

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jodi K Hill.

Hi Jodi K, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was born in the Hill Country and raised on live music, so in a way, supporting artists has always been woven into the fabric of my life. My family hosted many parties, but my favorite was always a big Fourth of July event every year around my birthday with a full lineup of backyard bands on the lake. I later learned that everyone was in fact, not there there to celebrate my birthday, July 2nd with fireworks, boating, the band… Even now, it’s still my favorite time of the year with the hot Texas sun, live music, and being on the lake.

All of that to say, being a part of the party came naturally to me —staying out late and working non-typical hours, spending time planning every detail for one special night, thinking of exciting outfits and how to create the best experience for every single guest. I started working in the events industry my freshman year of college to pay tuition with my first gig being a star-studded event during SXSW. Turns out … it was Jon Hamm’s Birthday Party. Since then, I’ve worn all the hats from helping with catering companies, bartending events, social media marketing, event coordinating, designing, and my personal favorite — booking bands.

Over the past 10-years, I’ve lived alongside musicians, assisted with hundreds of events, and even toured briefly, earning the nickname Jodi the Roadie. Along the way, I developed a diverse palette in experience & discovered my purpose — curating exciting events and helping part-time artists transition into full-time music careers.
I am SO LUCKY to have found my passion – but I’ll never be able to forget my backyard roots or touring across the country in a van with 6 stinky guys.
As Austin continues to welcome new friends and neighbors, my goal is to help curate the sound of now by supporting artists and designing events that reflect today’s energy.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Building Lucky Girl Music has been incredibly rewarding, but it has also required resilience, adaptability, and a willingness to approach challenges with an open mind.
If you live in Austin, you know it can feel like a small town — and the events and entertainment industry is an even smaller world. You quickly learn that relationships, reputation, and professionalism matter just as much as talent. Because it’s such a personality-driven industry, there are naturally strong opinions, competitive dynamics, and years of history and overlap between planners, venues, artists, and entertainment agencies. People move between companies, collaborate in different circles, and everyone seems to know everyone. Honestly, we could probably use our own reality TV show.

Starting something independently, especially in a creative field, also comes with a lot of uncertainty and comparison. Over time, I’ve learned the importance of staying grounded and trusting my own vision and style instead of chasing trends or measuring success against other people’s paths.

That commitment to authenticity and consistency has shaped not only my leadership style, but also the kind of company culture I want Lucky Girl Music to represent — creative, editorial, contemporary, and focused on Austin hospitality. Even as we grow to a city with 1 million residents, keeping our friendly spirit and altruism alive is so important to me.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Lucky Girl Music & Events?
Lucky Girl Music is a boutique entertainment agency specializing in providing local talent such as live bands, musicians, DJs, and other curated performers for private events, weddings, corporate events, and milestone celebrations. Designed as a heritage brand, Lucky Girl is a creative and elevated agency for clients pursuing fresh and adaptive events. At its core, I built the company around the idea that entertainment should feel personal and thoughtfully tailored to each client rather than one-size-fits-all.

As the only native Texan, woman-owned entertainment company in Texas, I’m especially proud of the way we’ve grown within such a competitive industry while staying grounded in our core values. Navigating the local market alongside larger regional and national competitors has pushed us to define exactly what we want the Lucky Girl Music experience to feel like — warm, intentional, editorial, and deeply client-focused.

One of our biggest values is what we call “Austin Hospitality”. We believe in bringing a genuinely kind, caring, go-the-extra-mile attitude to every client and event. As a business owner, so far I’m most proud that Lucky Girl Music has grown organically through our referrals, relationships, and reputation. That means a lot to me because it reflects the experience people actually have working with us. More than anything, I want readers to know that we genuinely care about creating meaningful experiences and bringing a sense of connection, creativity, and care to every celebration we’re lucky to be a part of.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
While we’re still building our new name, I’d like to think one of the most important qualities inspiring my success is authenticity. In an industry thats highly creative, relationship-driven, and constantly evolving, it can be easy to compare yourself to others or follow trends that don’t truly align with your vision. Learning to trust my instincts, stay grounded in my own style, and build a brand that genuinely reflects my values has been incredibly important as we grow.

Consistency has also played a huge role. Whether it’s client communication, professionalism, or the experience we deliver at events, I believe people remember how you make them feel over time. Building strong relationships and maintaining a positive reputation in such a small industry has been just as important as talent or creativity.

Most importantly, I think success comes from caring deeply about people and respecting the role we play in their celebrations. Event vendors are often behind the scenes without much recognition, but we’re really just one part of a much larger team of talented creatives working together to bring someone’s vision to life. Clients have often spent years saving, planning, and dreaming about these moments, and it’s a privilege to contribute to that experience in a meaningful way through Lucky Girl Music.
