Today we’d like to introduce you to Jonathan Moeller
Hi Jonathan, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My love of racing started young, thanks to my dad. He was a racer himself in his early days, and I grew up listening to his stories about road and drag racing in Florida. He was also a mechanic, so I spent countless hours in the garage with him—mostly learning how not to shine a flashlight directly in his eyes. But more importantly, I learned to appreciate the beauty of cars and how they worked.
As a kid, I was obsessed with Matchbox cars, which eventually became remote control cars in my teens and then real cars as soon as I was old enough to drive (well, almost old enough). In college, I spent hours playing Gran Turismo with friends, and one day, we decided to stop playing and hit the track with our real cars. That first experience was a mix of nerves and exhilaration—I’ll never forget the rush of finding the line on the track and feeling the car come alive beneath me.
Over the last 25 years, I’ve been fortunate enough to drive an incredible variety of cars—everything from a humble Mazda Miata and a Subaru Outback to Lamborghinis, Ferraris, and track-prepped Porsches—on race tracks across North America, Europe, and even New Zealand. My love for cars also extended to motorcycles, and I’ll admit I didn’t waste any time after buying my first bike: it went straight to the track. That’s where I learned the thrill of pushing the limits on two wheels.
About ten years ago, I discovered something that brought me just as much joy as driving: teaching others. There’s something so rewarding about helping someone else have that “aha” moment—whether it’s mastering a perfect heel-toe downshift or conquering a corner they were struggling with. That passion for teaching and sharing my love of driving is what inspired me to start Get On The Track. My goal has always been to help others experience not just the thrill of driving, but also the confidence, control, and safety that comes with really understanding what a car is capable of.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I feel so grateful that I developed solid relationships with other individuals and companies in the industry that have helped me avoid much of the struggle of starting out in this industry. That said, I still have a lot of work to do.
As with most companies, the main struggle has been developing brand recognition and lead generation. Finding the right target audience and getting the message out to them takes a lot of time and effort.
With cars, there’s the added difficulty of convincing people that they need training. There’s a funny statistic that over 73% of Americans consider themselves to be above average drivers. Meanwhile, over 90% of accidents are due to human error. Combine that overconfidence with the fact that the average car today has performance capabilities that match or exceed those of the supercars of 25 years ago, and you can see why there’s a need for better training, especially in today’s sports and super cars.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Get On The Track?
About Our High Performance Driver Coaching Business
At Get On The Track, we specialize in high-performance driver coaching designed to help individuals maximize their enjoyment of the cars they own. Our passion lies in coaching anyone eager to explore the limits of their vehicles, no matter what they drive. Whether you’re behind the wheel of a sports car or a family sedan, we believe everyone deserves the chance to experience the thrill of driving on a track.
Personalized Coaching Experience
We offer one-on-one coaching tailored to your unique personality and learning style. Our goal is to make high-performance driver education approachable and less intimidating than what you might find with typical track day organizations. We provide relaxed, low-traffic access to various tracks around Austin, ensuring a comfortable environment for learning. Our coaching includes pre-event communication to assess your goals and needs, as well as post-event evaluations to guide your next steps in improving your driving skills.
Building Trusting Relationships
One of the aspects I’m most proud of is the strong relationships we’ve built with our clients. We’ve earned their trust by prioritizing their safety and the protection of their prized possessions while they explore their driving abilities. For instance, one of our frequent attendees drives a Camaro he purchased with money left to him by his father. His father’s wish was for him to buy something special, and it brings me immense pride to know that I’ve helped him enjoy and appreciate that gift even more.
Changing Perceptions About Track Driving
I want people to understand that taking a car to a racetrack isn’t a risky endeavor and doesn’t automatically diminish a car’s value. In fact, I feel significantly safer on the track than I do driving on I-35. On the track, I’m in a controlled environment with others who have at least a reasonable level of skill. In contrast, driving on the road can feel like a gamble, especially when pushing the limits of a car.
An Invitation for Your Readers
For your readers who love their cars and have never experienced driving on a closed course, I highly encourage them to join us for a session. They’ll leave with a newfound appreciation for what their car can do and increased confidence in their driving abilities. At Get On The Track, we’re here to help unlock the full potential of their driving experience!
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
It’s interesting how the car community has served as a fantastic networking tool for me. While you can’t force a passion for cars, I believe leveraging your interests is key to effective networking. When you find yourself in a group of like-minded individuals—whether it’s around cars, music, art, or sports—conversations flow naturally, leading to genuine connections and meaningful relationships.
For those seeking a mentor, I recommend identifying individuals who have already achieved what you aspire to do. Look for ways to offer your assistance or support, as this can pave the way for a closer working relationship. By making yourself useful, you’ll not only gain valuable insights into their success habits and systems but also create an opportunity to learn directly from their experiences.
