Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachelle C Davis
Hi Rachelle C, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I studied media and started recording music in college, and then met all the requirements to sit for the CPA exam in my 20s. But by the time I started taking the exams, I was tired of accounting. It didn’t fit with my creative, entrepreneurial spirit. In 2018, I started to learn marketing on the side. Within a few months, I started my own business and pursued freelancing full-time. It’s been a challenging journey but it’s taught me a lot about myself and about other people. Now I have a few long-term clients while I write a book to teach others my marketing systems.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
A couple of years ago, I heard a mentor say we’re in an industry that “eats its own young.” That’s when it hit me that my industry is a digital jungle. It’s not as crazy as the entertainment industry, but it’s not a walk in the park. Most people quit before they even really seem to get started. There have been times when I’ve had to take on other jobs like Uber, and it’s common to do that.
I think the hardest part is when you feel so sure you’re going to score a contract with a company and you really need to get paid, only for them to totally ghost you. Businesses really need to understand their sales cycle and cashflow concerns and plan accordingly – but even then, you’re at the mercy of the market and your clients (or shareholders). It makes you wonder sometimes if the freedom we’re all seeking is even possible.
Things are good now, but I’ve dealt with issues like food insecurity. A lot of people take stimulants to keep up with the demand to work more and more. I’ve seen friends and people in my extended circle pass away in their 30s and 40s, and I’m convinced that the hustle culture had something to do with it.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Damn Good Emails?
I help online businesses scale without spending a penny on ads. Right now I’m working on a book called Scale Without Ads, and it will be hosted on www.scalewithoutads.com by late January 2025.
This simple 3-step system is based on my experience working with 7 and 8 figure ecommerce companies who sell physical goods online. Their profit margins are smaller than information-based businesses, and they really need more leverage with their marketing and sales systems.
My system helps them tap into their existing customer base, which is at least 5x more profitable than chasing after new customers. It’s like a hidden goldmine they just need to tap into.
This system has helped my clients make additional millions without any extra work on their part. It’s as simple as leveraging their existing customer base and looking for the many opportunities to increase their Average Order Value and Lifetime Customer Value.
As for my own business? I’m a freelance marketer and copywriter who is transitioning into an information publisher and consultant. I also want to add physical products to my wheelhouse.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
My naivete. No matter who tries to beat me down, I still believe in things that sound near impossible or at least highly unlikely. There’s a British trip-hop artist named Tricky who talked about how this was important to his success and it really resonated with me.
