Hi Serena, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Hi, My name is Serena! I grew up in Phoenix, Arizona and moved to Austin at the end of 2022 with my husband for a change of pace after the pandemic.
I’ve always been passionate about the beauty industry, posting creative makeup looks online for years, but had also been dealing with severe acne since my late teens. I spent years trying expensive products and treatments that didn’t work, and feeling dismissed by dermatologists.
These frustrating experiences drove me to try and find real solutions on my own, leading to a deep dive into skin science and ingredient formulation to try and heal my own skin. I encountered so many misleading claims and marketing during my research, and I made it my mission to figure out what was and wasn’t true about acne and skin health in general. I ended up falling completely in love with the all things skincare along the way!
This passion for skincare eventually inspired me to pursue a formal education in esthetics in 2024, and after graduating and obtaining my license, I started my business, Love Letter Aesthetics, in 2025.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It’s definitely been challenging at times! I didn’t work for anyone else before starting my business, so I was building my clientele completely from scratch and flying blind in a lot of areas. I also had no money saved up front, so it was slow going trying to get up and running with everything I would need!
Once I did, I was only able to fill 2-4 days out of the month, mostly with model clients at very discounted rates to get content to post! It was definitely a labor of love, and I was really living off my paychecks at my retail job at that time. It took me about 8 months of hustling and marketing to start building a steady client base of regulars. I’m so grateful to all of my loyal clients! Those first months of struggle were so worth it to be able to make a living off doing something I love.

Love Letter Aesthetics is an independent skincare studio meant for anyone who feels stuck on their skin journey and is tired of spending their hard earned money on expensive treatments and products that don’t work for them.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
I’m not sure if this is meant to be related to my business, but that’s where my mind is at, so I think one of my favorite childhood memories having to do with beauty is when I would make homemade face and hair masks with my friends! We would mix together things like honey, avocado, and coconut oil and go wild. Looking back, it was probably not doing anything for us, but it was truly so much fun and peak girlhood.
