Inspiring Conversations with Anna Weber and Becki Spellman of BAnna Camp

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anna Weber and Becki Spellman. Them and their team share their story with us below:

Anna and Becki are both professional runners and running coaches who met through running in 2016. Becki has qualified for 4 Olympic Trials in the marathon, and Anna has qualified for 2 Olympic Trials in the marathon. Despite having identical goals and similar coaching businesses, they decided to support one another instead of letting competition divide them. They both had childhood dreams of starting a running camp, and after getting to know each other more, it occurred to them that they could make their dream come true together. BAnna Camp was born in 2019 and takes place every year at Twin Lakes YMCA in Cedar Park. It’s a fun weekend for women of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds to come together to learn more about running, support each other, and grow as athletes.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
After a lot of success at the first camp in 2019, we had to unexpectedly cancel their second camp due to COVID-19. After deferring everyone’s registration to 2021, we had to cancel that camp as well due to the uncertainty of COVID. As a start-up, it was financially and emotionally difficult to cancel two camps in a row.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Having attended multiple running camps together in the past, we recognized there weren’t many options for the woman who was trying to get the most out of her running, no matter her goals. Thus, BAnna Camp was born to provide opportunities for women to learn from one another about how to holistically become better athletes. Our camp focuses on not only the physical side of running but the mental aspect as well. We also strongly believe in balance and want to provide opportunities for fun, friendship, and empowerment as well. We are most proud of modeling what it looks like for two women who could compete with one another to instead work together to create something bigger than themselves. Our camp takes place every January at Twin Lakes YMCA in Cedar Park, it is all-inclusive and ALL women of ALL abilities are welcome.

What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most to us is that women leave our camp as more confident individuals with a stronger sense of what it takes to achieve their goals, as well as the tools for empowerment to share with others.
