Today we’d like to introduce you to Anthony Collins. Them and their team share their story with us below:
Porto Rico Leaf Company was organized and chartered by Spain around 1506. This became Porto Rico Tobacco Company and later Porto Rico American Tobacco Corporation in 1898, which became Puerto Rico Tobacco Corporation (PRTC) in the 1920s and has operated until today. PRTC started making Don Collins Cigars in 1991. Edward Collins, Former President of the Puerto Rico Tobacco Corporation and Founder of the Don Collins brand of premium 100% Puerto Rican products but suddenly Edward passed away, so Anthony became president of the company after his father died from cancer in September 2019. The company crashed down.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Hurricane Maria, Hurricane Fiona, and COVID lockdowns were very strict in Puerto Rico and Unstable Electric Grid and worked a business in Austin full time, but suddenly I came back to Puerto Rico because my dad died and need someone to run our business.

Don Collins cultivates all-natural Puerto Rican tobacco and transforms it into a cigar experience to remember! Our tobacco plants are grown pesticide and chemical free in the pristine mountains of Puerto Rico, and are harvested by local farmers. From curing and aging the leaves to the creation of the cigar itself, we strive to deliver the utmost quality in our products while continuing to honor time-tested methods and traditions.
Our cigars are Made By Hand in the Oldest Surviving Cigar Factory in the Caribbean. Founded in 1506, the building stands on the site of the ancient Taíno festival, Sik’ar. When the Spanish discovered the festival, they took the products back to Spain as cigarros.
Don Collins Cigars – a tradition that is still going strong today. We are incredibly proud to share roots with the oldest continuously operating factory in the western hemisphere!
