Inspiring Conversations with Chandler Soldano of Superior Fabrication

Today we’d like to introduce you to Chandler Soldano.

Hi Chandler, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Started my senior year of high school they offered a welding class I was never interested in school but I was interested in learning how to weld. I was able to get a scholarship for another welding class and was able to go to school in the mornings and at night and got certified early. After graduating high school I hit the road traveling trying to find work. I was on the road working for 7 years on various jobs; the pipe line, building to new trash trucks to building navy battleships in Marinette, Wisconsin. Eventually settled down in San Marcos TX working at a shop prefabricating refinery piping. I realized that trading my time and skill for little money for someone else wasn’t working for me anymore. I took the leap and started my own business. Which was the best decision I ever made I am 5 years into my business and haven’t looked back.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No it hasn’t always been a smooth road, there were times I wasn’t sure where the next job/paycheck was going to be coming from. The first couple years of getting established I had to spend most of the money I was earning on tools and equipment. Getting into the commercial side of construction was a learning curve as well, I had to figure out how to bid jobs correctly in order to win the job and there were plenty of jobs I didn’t land. Going from just being a welder to owning my own welding business came with many different challenges that I had to face and I know there are still new challenges to come. I see these all as opportunities to continue to learn and grow.

We’ve been impressed with Superior Fabrication, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?

What do you like and dislike about the city?
Austin is a vibrant city that has something for everyone, I appreciate that it has so much offer and its a welcoming environment with many great places to eat. The thing I struggle with is dragging my trailer down the tight streets of Austin but scootering down those streets is a great time if you haven’t tried it yet you’re missing out.
