Today we’d like to introduce you to Derika Evans.
Derika, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I moved to Austin in 2016 and sort of floated around without much of a purpose, like a lot of twenty-somethings do. I was figuring things out, trying different things, and living life without really questioning whether the path I was on was the one I wanted for myself.
For a long time, I was the person who wanted to help everyone, make sure everyone was okay, and be whatever people needed me to be. I didn’t always realize how often I was putting myself last or how much of my life was shaped by what I thought I *should* be doing rather than what actually felt right for me.
In 2022, I began exploring Reiki, which brought me back closer to my spiritual side and sparked a deeper interest in understanding myself. As I continued on this journey of self-discovery, I found Shuniya Yoga Collective here in Austin, which deepened my healing journey even further. Shortly after, I discovered Human Design in one of those “divine timing” kind of ways, and it gave me a whole new perspective on myself. It put language to things I’d always felt but hadn’t quite understood and helped me recognize patterns I’d accepted as just being who I was.
The more I explored, the more I started questioning the expectations I’d placed on myself and the things I’d learned to believe about who I needed to be. I began to see how much of my energy went toward taking care of others, and how important it was to give myself that same care.
That experience is a big part of why I created Daisy Soul Healing. I bring together Human Design, Reiki, and soul-led coaching to help others understand themselves more deeply, explore the conditioning they’ve picked up, and figure out what it looks like to live a life that actually feels like theirs.
We’re constantly changing, experiencing new things, and becoming different versions of ourselves. For me, it’s about creating the space to return to yourself through all of those seasons. It’s about tending to your own personal flame, even when life gets busy or you find yourself slipping back into old patterns.
I’m still learning what that looks like in my own life, too.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It absolutely has not been a completely smooth road. I think one of the hardest parts has been learning to trust myself and putting myself out there, especially when you’re building something that feels so personal to you.
I’ve struggled with people-pleasing, perfectionism, second-guessing myself, and wondering if I’m really qualified to do this work. It’s one thing to learn about Human Design, Reiki, and personal growth, but it’s another thing to put yourself out there and say, “Hey, I can help you with this.” There’s a vulnerability in that, especially when you’re still working through your own stuff, too.
Something I’ve learned through my own healing is that becoming aware of your patterns doesn’t mean they suddenly stop showing up. You can recognize people-pleasing in the moment and still feel the urge to make everyone happy. You can recognize perfectionism and still struggle with the feeling that something isn’t good enough to share. The difference is that you start noticing those moments and have the opportunity to make a different choice. Sometimes you do, and sometimes you fall back into old habits. You just keep practicing.
I’ve also experienced a lot of loss, and learning how to hold space for grief while still showing up for my life has been its own journey. I don’t think grief is something you just get over or neatly move past. It’s something you learn to carry, and there’s room for it to exist alongside joy, growth, and all the other things life brings. Learning to give myself permission to feel all of it has been important.
Building the business has brought its own challenges. Figuring out how to talk about what I do, reach the people who might need it, and build something sustainable takes a lot more than just being passionate about the work. There have been times when I’ve put a lot of energy into something and haven’t seen the response I hoped for. It’s hard not to question yourself when you’re putting your heart into something and still figuring out how to make it work.
About nine months ago, I also stepped away from a job I’d been at for eight and a half years to give myself the chance to pursue something different. It was a big step outside of my comfort zone, and the transition hasn’t always been easy. There’s a difference between believing in yourself and actually having to put that belief into practice when you don’t know exactly how things are going to work out. I’ve had to sit with a lot of uncertainty and let go of the idea that I need to have everything figured out before moving forward. I’m learning to trust myself enough to keep going, even when the path looks different than I expected.
I’m still figuring a lot of it out. I think that’s part of what makes this journey so personal. The same things I’m learning to practice in my own life are the things I hope to help others explore in theirs.
We’ve been impressed with Daisy Soul Healing , but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Daisy Soul Healing is a virtual practice offering a space for people to reconnect with themselves and explore what it looks like to live a life that feels like their own. I bring together Human Design, Reiki, and soul-led coaching to help others better understand themselves, recognize patterns and conditioning they’ve picked up over the years, and reconnect with who they are beneath all of that.
Human Design is a big part of my work. It’s a system that offers insight into how we’re each uniquely designed to move through life, make decisions, and use our energy. For me, discovering it was one of those experiences that made me feel genuinely seen. It helped me understand parts of myself I’d struggled to explain, and I love being able to offer that same experience to others. Reiki brings a different element to the work, creating space to slow down, settle in, and simply be, rather than always trying to think your way through everything. Soul-led coaching brings those pieces together and helps people explore how they want to apply what they’re learning to their everyday lives.
What makes my approach different is that I’m not here to tell anyone who they should be or give them another set of rules to follow. There’s already so much pressure to do things a certain way, be a certain kind of person, or constantly work toward becoming a better version of yourself. I want to help people question some of those expectations and get curious about what actually feels right for them. It’s not about fixing yourself. It’s about understanding yourself and learning to trust yourself enough to make choices that reflect who you are.
The heart of my brand is something I call the Ritual Return. I think of it as tending to your own personal flame. We’re always growing, changing, and moving through different versions of ourselves, and I don’t believe reconnecting with yourself is something you do once and then check off a list. It’s a practice you return to again and again, making space for yourself through every season of life.
My longer journeys are built around four pillars that guide the Ritual Return. The first is healing your inner child and beginning to understand the parts of you that still need care. The second is honoring who you are today by recognizing the person you’ve become through your experiences and conditioning, and giving yourself space to question whether those old beliefs and patterns still serve you. The third is embodying your favorite version of yourself, allowing yourself to explore who you want to be and begin living as that person. The fourth is alignment, bringing every version of yourself together so you’re not leaving parts of who you are behind, but finding a way for all of them to belong.
I offer different journey options depending on how deeply someone wants to explore this work. Each one brings together Human Design, Reiki, and coaching in its own way, creating space to understand yourself more deeply and start bringing that understanding into your everyday life.
I’m proud that Daisy Soul Healing has grown out of my own experiences and the things I’m still learning. I want it to feel warm, welcoming, and grounded, a space where you don’t have to show up with everything figured out. You can come as you are, ask questions, be curious, and explore at your own pace.
Alongside my longer journeys, I offer Reiki sessions and ongoing support for those who’ve completed a journey and want to continue making space for themselves. I also offer a free Clarity Session for anyone who wants to connect and learn more about working together before deciding if it’s the right fit.
Ultimately, I want people to know that they don’t have to keep living by expectations that no longer feel like theirs. There’s room to do things differently, and sometimes that starts with simply giving yourself the time and space to hear your own voice again.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
The people I love mean everything to me. My family, my partner, my dog, and getting to be an auntie are such important parts of my life. One of the things I hope my nieces and nephews always know is that they’re loved, that their voices matter, and that they never have to go through life feeling like they’re on their own. I want to be someone they can turn to as they grow, no matter what life looks like for them.
I’m also someone who really values the little things in life. Slow mornings, time at home with my dog, laughing with the people I love, and having the space to enjoy a moment without thinking about what I need to do next. I think it’s easy to get so caught up in working toward the next thing that you forget there’s a whole life happening right in front of you.
Ultimately, I want to build a life where there’s room for both ambition and enjoyment. I want to do work that feels meaningful to me, be present for the people I love, make memories with my family, and appreciate the life I’m living rather than always looking toward what’s next. For me, success isn’t just about what I accomplish. It’s also about having the time and freedom to enjoy the people, experiences, and little everyday moments that make life feel full.
