Inspiring Conversations with Eduardo Duran of Realty of America

Today we’d like to introduce you to Eduardo Duran

Hi Eduardo, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I was born and raised in El Paso, Texas, in a community that was predominantly Latino. My parents, both Mexican immigrants, overcame immense challenges to establish themselves in the United States. Through their unwavering hard work, they instilled in me a strong work ethic and a deep sense of integrity. Their example taught me what it means to be relentless, consistent, and honest in all aspects of life. As a child, my family’s routine consisted of getting up early and heading to work and school together, well before classes even started. I spent many mornings waiting an hour for school to start because I had to be dropped off in order for my parents to get to work on time. After school, my mother would pick up my brother and I and take us to her flower shop, where we would help out however we could. I witnessed my parents pour everything they had into securing a better future for my brother and I. Their sacrifices have profoundly influenced my journey and their example continues to motivate every decision I make. I am incredibly grateful for their guidance and hope to pass their values on to my own children one day. Their influence shaped many of the virtues I carry today—work ethic, self-confidence, and, above all, the importance of building meaningful relationships.

When I moved to Austin in 2019 to attend UT Austin, I never anticipated that I would also have the opportunity to grow a business in the real estate space in such an amazing city. I began my real estate career in 2019 as a freshman, earning my license and helping a few close friends find student housing. As my client base grew, I made a bold decision in my junior year to form my own leasing company, Lease With Ease LLC. In 2023 I graduated from UT with a bachelors degree in mechanical engineering and faced a tough career decision: should I take the engineering job offer I had secured, or should I stick to my real estate career that I had been growing and nurturing for years?

I chose the latter and I do not regret it one bit. People have judged, and I have learned that there will always be opposing opinions; all we can truly do in life is act and stand behind our decisions to see them through. Today I enjoy massive success as a real estate agent in the Austin area, and have grown my business on the back of the same values that my parents instilled in me.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has been a long, bumpy one, but that is what makes it worth taking. As a realtor, I get to work with people of all ages, careers, education levels, nationalities, and they all have unique stories, distinct paths they have traversed across the arc of life. Mine has been a truly rewarding one, full of varied challenges and obstacles, each bump and bruise along the way offering the tiniest bit of wisdom to me along the way.

One struggle in particular that I find worth addressing is that of young entrepreneurs feeling intimidated when facing big battles. Fear of failure is something that held me back when I first started, and this fear was rooted in me believing I was “too young” to sell million dollar houses, or represent landlords for entire 5o unit apartment complexes- both of which I have done multiple times now at 24. How did I overcome this? I realized life is short. I realized every day was truly fleeting and it would only ever be March 1, 2025 ONE TIME. I decided that since time waits for nobody, I might as well swing for the fences all the time. Heck- I strike out more than most, but people only remember the home runs!

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Realty of America?
Realty of America is a newly founded real estate firm that is taking the real estate scene by storm. We offer competitive perks to agents and have a large presence in the Latino community, both in terms of our agents and in terms of our leadership. I really like that about our company.

What sets me apart from 99% of realtors is my background. I am a former engineer with abundant technical skills and a natural curiosity that serves my clientele at the highest level. I am very number savvy and guide my clients through scenarios without needing to ask a mortgage banker for every little piece of info. I read inspection reports and actually understand them. I am bilingual, and am working on my Chinese to get to trilingual!

I am also very media focused, and have excellent presence online. Many realtors are on Instagram or TikTok, including myself, but very seldom do you see a realtor consistently on YouTube. This is my bread and butter, and I work with tons of clients in the relocation specialty here in Austin.

Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
For those just starting, I advise you to take it a day at a time. When embarking on a career journey it can seem daunting and overwhelming to enumerate ALL the things you need to do or accomplish to reach your goal. One thing that has helped me is to face the dragon head on by spending some time and writing down as many things as I can think of that will increase the likelihood of success in said endeavor. I then group them into categories- use common sense- and make a timeline for each step. If done correctly, you will have created a map of the journey ahead. Make each step short and bite sized, and focus on that next step, not the miles ahead.

Stress is often not rooted in having too many things to do, but rather not knowing what must be done. Once you have your map, just follow it.
