Today we’d like to introduce you to Rachel Ortiz.
Hi Rachel, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My journey in the field of mental health began in 2010 when I began working for the US Army in Germany, offering mindfulness and yoga classes to soldiers preparing to deploy to Afghanistan. I was a military spouse and wanted to do my part to help soldiers as much as I could. When I came back to the US, I continued my work with Veterans at various non-profits geared toward Veteran assistance. I wanted to do deeper, micro-focused work, but recognized that I had some educational limitations. I went back to school to obtain a Masters in Social Work with the goal of becoming a therapist – doing deep, healing work for Veterans and others who had endured life changing events. Since then, I have worked in skilled nursing facilities and as a trauma-informed psychotherapist, specializing in EMDR and other modalities that allow clients to heal from a deep place.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth road. There were deployments, divorces, births, and deaths along the path. At one point, I was a single mother working full time, going to school full time, and raising three rambunctious little boys. There were physical and emotional struggles that required a great deal of tenacity and grit. But, we made it through – stronger than ever!
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Solstice Therapy TX?
Solstice Therapy TX specializes in working with folks from many backgrounds and walks of life. Beginning as a generalist practice, we have become a niche psychotherapy practice focusing on trauma-informed care and the bigger, more existential questions in life. We specialize in EMDR therapy as well as traditional talk therapy that gets to the deeper unconscious reasons behind our behaviors to gain a true understanding of what guides us and how we can heal. We offer traditional 50-min psychotherapy sessions as well as EMDR Intensives for those wanting to experience healing rapidly. Discounts available for Veterans, First Responders, and senior citizens.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
Austin is my hometown, and I have spent nearly 30 years here. I love the lakes and the outdoors, the incredible food scene, and the sweetness of its people.
