J. Marie’s Stories, Lessons & Insights

We’re looking forward to introducing you to J. Marie. Check out our conversation below.

Hi J. Marie, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: Have any recent moments made you laugh or feel proud?
Recently, I’ve felt really proud about the growth of my business. Last month, I surpassed 4k followers on Instagram. Last month was also my anniversary of 4 years in business, so I had to celebrate with a giveaway on my Instagram. I felt so proud when I reached out to local businesses I work with asking if they’d like to contribute a gift card to my giveaway, and they were excited to contribute, they even gave more than I asked for. I remembered when I first started, people didn’t know me, and now businesses want to celebrate me. It’s a beautiful feeling.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is J. Marie and my business is J. Marie Tarot. I am a psychic medium and tarot intuitive based in Austin, Texas. I channel your Spirit Team, your Angels, your Ancestors, and your Guides to get you the clarity you need to align with your best path. I also cross over spirits and I specialize in demonic entities. I also do Reiki which is source light energy flowing through your body removing any negative energy in your body. During my tarot sessions we can tap into the Akashic records which is your history on incarnations, we can explore past lives, or we can just align you with your best future.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
I find that trust and respect are essential to form and maintain any relationship. The foundations of love are a mutual trust in each other and the relationship you’re building, and a mutual respect for each other and the relationship. I had a rough childhood where these two things were not really present in my daily life and they weren’t really present in the relationship with my parents, and as I grow older and read more tarot, I see the patterns of how relationships can fall apart and I see the patterns of how they stay together. Trust and respect are essential to the foundation of any relationship.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering is interesting because it rips anything cloudy away and leaves only clarity. Only the essential and important things are allowed to be shown through the fog of suffering. I’ll give suffering that, it’s rough, but in that roughness I know what I need and value, I just have to find a way to get there. I’ve had a lot of ups and downs in my life, I am familiar with suffering and one thing it’s taught me recently is how bad I want my business to continue to be successful. Success is great don’t get me wrong, it’s great having people understand your value and open doors to more success for you, but it’s those moments, when it’s just me and business and I have to be the one find the way through, that continue to show me how bad I want this, because it never even crosses my mind to quit. My business is the best thing I’ve ever done and the best things that’s ever happened to me, so when there are rock bottom moments, even in those moments, quitting is never an option and I’m really proud of myself for that.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
I’m always me. I find it disgusting to be fake. So many people are fake or putting on a mask, I find it boring. Cookie cutter. I want everyone to just be themselves. That’s one of my goals with tarot. I want to help people find themselves in this mess of systemic oppression and have the courage and confidence to step out in the world as themselves. That’s what the world needs. Social media has gotten so bad with its influencer aesthetic. Everyone looks the same. They all use the same colors. I’m bored. I feel pride when people tell my socials are so colorful.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
I definitely can. I’ve been doing this all my life. I didn’t have the support I desired as a kid, so I learned from a young age how to follow my heart. It’s forced me to listen to my heart, my internal compass, so no matter what is happening around me I know I can tune into my heart and take it from there. It’s forced me to build a strong trust in myself from an early age that I am immensely grateful for now that I’m an adult. I remember when I was leaving my corporate job, the job I had when I started my business, everyone was like where are you going and I told them I started a tarot business, their faces were hilarious, the shock, the disappointment, and I understand, we’re all programmed from a young age that you go to college get a degree, then work for a corporation or something like that, and I, without even trying, was shattering this perceived ideal plan in their heads. Some were worried, some had to think I was crazy, but honestly, it’s still the best decision I’ve ever made.
