Kerby The Photogtapher of Austin Tx on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Kerby The Photogtapher. Check out our conversation below.

Kerby, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
I find it so impressive to see people. I consider successful to have so much energy to get task and responsibilities done and taken care of. I’m currently working on myself mentally and physically so I could have that much energy like the people I look up to.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Kerby, also known as Kerby The photographer. What I do is in the name but I am a fashion and lifestyle photographer some might call me an editorial photographer or just a Jack of all trades, master of none, but oftentimes better than a master of one.
My brand I think is interesting because of the unique locations and models that I work with. My work has always been complimented on its quality, not just the image itself, but down to the details of my choice of model, location and outfit even the hidden Easter eggs I put in my photos that tell a little bit about who I am and my interest. I am currently working on being a bit more transparent with my supporters. I want the people that view my work to feel part of the process when bringing my visions to life. I started releasing short videos documenting my photo shoots and my lifestyle as photographer and creative director. I call them “LOST TAPES” because these videos are filmed on camcorders that give off a old VHS aesthetic. You can find them on my YouTube channel; which is youtube.com/kerbythephotographer.

I’m a big fan of these videos that I’m putting together and uploading onto the Internet because it creates a feeling that I once felt as a kid when my parents and I used to go to our local movie rental called Manny‘s in Chicago
And even blockbuster. Something about popping in a VHS hearing it wind up and watching it play on the TV was exciting for me. So I try creating that same feeling with these videos I call “LOST TAPES”

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
This is such a great question; I think what breaks the bond between people is growth, because not everyone sees eye to eye, not everyone will understand you and not everyone wants to see you elevate or win or see you become a better version of yourself. Growth is what led a lot of relationships with people I cared about in the past to die with time. I think the only thing that can restore these relationships or bonds is the person understanding you and being open minded.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
Not being accepted by the world, but I have learned to honestly not care anymore about what the world or anybody thinks about me or my work. I take photos and create because I genuinely enjoy it. I have a passion for it. I always have since I was a kid. I just knew that I always wanted to create and I just always knew that I was gonna be a star.

My best advice is stop caring about what others think and just be yourself and put the damn project out!! Hahaha

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
Absolutely.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
How creative I am, loving, caring, how genuine I am, how honest i am, and how brilliant. I’ve been told many times that when I walk into a room, you could feel my energy, but not in a bad way.
