Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Chris Lozada of Cedar Park

We’re looking forward to introducing you to Chris Lozada. Check out our conversation below.

Chris, really appreciate you sharing your stories and insights with us. The world would have so much more understanding and empathy if we all were a bit more open about our stories and how they have helped shaped our journey and worldview. Let’s jump in with a fun one: What do the first 90 minutes of your day look like?
I have a 5 and 12 yr old, so we get the kids ready and off to school. Afterwards, my wife and I have breakfast together and watch an episode of Friends before she leaves for work. Then, I sit down and create my checklist for the day.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Chris Lozada, a photographer based in Texas. While my main focus is weddings, I genuinely love to create and actively shoot everything from boudoir and lifestyle, to creative portraits and branding.

No matter the niche, the goal is always the same. To ensure the subjects of my lens feel empowered and confident as they are!

Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
Without a doubt, my mom and my wife. Growing up, my mom believed in me so deeply. Anything that had my attention, she believed I could be great at if I gave it my all. That created a mindset that allowed me to face life head-on as I got older. But when I moved out and actually had to face life, things got hard. Through the many trials I faced on my own, I lost myself. Piece by piece I lost who I was, and started to become someone different. I think it’s safe to say the world did its best to dim my light. But through that, I had the support of my lovely wife. Who from the very beginning of our relationship, believed I could do and be anything. When I lost myself, she became that guiding light and continues to be that whenever I need it most.

What fear has held you back the most in your life?
Being seen. I’m not one for the spotlight, so whenever opportunities arise that put me at the center or have me as a focal point, that’s when I self-sabotage the most. I don’t know if it’s a fear of judgement or what, but it does hold me back. Going into business for myself has only magnified that, as all of the marketing and social media presence squarely depends on me. Since this is something I still struggle with, I’m not nearly as active as I should be.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
That language matters. How we speak about ourselves and others will shape how we view the world around us. If you’re constantly speaking negatively about yourself (or others), chances are you have a negative perception of the world or at least situations that involve you. And that’s not something I’m a fan of. The negative energy is draining and leaves little room for anything else, so why choose to stay in that space? I’m the person who wants to know, “do we need to be in this space right now?” Let’s address it and try to move on, otherwise you need to accept that you are keeping yourself in that space. When you speak with intention, you’re able to recognize those who choose to live in their negative bubbles while helping others break it.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What will you regret not doing?
Saying yes more. I say no to a lot of things. Hanging out, gaming, weird stuff my kids want to do. Taking the random trips or getting takeout. Turning down gigs or opportunities because of how I feel in that moment.

At the end of the day, we miss out on so much just by saying no. Sure, some of those no’s may be justified or for the best. But I personally do it more than I need to and I’ve missed out on so much as result. The potential for laughs, memories, networking and experiences. It is something I am trying to improve now – one day at a time.
