We’re looking forward to introducing you to Neelu Amar. Check out our conversation below.
Hi Neelu, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
My morning walks with my dogs!
Every morning, I look forward to walking my golden. Together we wander through the neighborhood, exploring different streets, the big park, and the green belts. The air feels fresh and peaceful, and I find joy in noticing the flowers, trees, birds, and even the small creatures of nature. It’s a simple ritual, yet it fills me with calm and gratitude.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello! I’m Neelu, an artist, graphic designer and an art healer with a lifelong passion for creativity. My journey with art began in my elementary school, and ever since, painting and design have been the ways I express myself and connect with the world around me. Over the years, I’ve explored traditional fine art, abstract art along with digital art, and even folk art during my time living in India.
What makes my work special is the way I blend cultural influences, personal experiences, and a deep love for color and storytelling. Whether I’m creating commissioned pieces, teaching art, or designing digitally, my goal is always to spark joy, curiosity, and a sense of connection.
Currently, I’m focused on expanding my art practice while continuing to work and share creativity with others. For me, art is not just about making something beautiful—it’s about creating moments of reflection, healing, and inspiration.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Before the world told me who I had to be, I was a naive girl lost in colors and imagination. I remember the joy of holding a brush, the smell of paints, and the thrill of watching colors blend into something new. Back then, I didn’t paint to achieve or prove anything—I painted because it made me happy. I was curious, free, and deeply connected to my creative spirit. That part of me has always been there, quietly guiding me, and every time I return to my art, I feel like I’m coming home to myself.
Over the years, various life lessons and tough times have taught me how to heal myself with the help of making art. What began as simple childhood joy has become a lifelong companion, a way to find peace, strength, and meaning. Every time I return to my art, I feel like I’m coming home to myself.
What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
Two of the most defining wounds of my life have been losing my father and later being diagnosed with cancer. Both experiences shook me deeply and changed the way I see life. Grief and illness brought moments of fear, vulnerability, and immense pain—but they also taught me the power of resilience.
Through it all, art became my refuge and my healing space. Painting allowed me to process emotions that words could not hold, and slowly, I began to transform my pain into something meaningful and beautiful. Creating art gave me strength, hope, and a way to reconnect with myself.
These experiences continue to shape not only who I am but also the heart of my work as an artist. For me, art is more than expression—it is healing, it is resilience, and it is a reminder that beauty can grow even out of life’s hardest seasons.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What’s a belief you used to hold tightly but now think was naive or wrong?
I used to believe wholeheartedly in love and expressing my emotions openly. I thought that sharing everything from the heart was always the right path. Over time, life taught me that while honesty and vulnerability are beautiful, not everything needs to be shared. Some experiences and emotions are best held quietly, either for personal healing or because others may not be ready to understand. This doesn’t mean I’ve stopped valuing love or expression—it just means I’ve learned to balance openness with wisdom and discernment.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I’ve often found myself caught between what I was told to do and what I truly wanted to do. Growing up, I never wanted to follow a path dictated by others, yet life’s responsibilities sometimes led me that way. Still, I’ve always believed in destiny, and looking back, I realize that I am now living the life I was born to lead. From creating art to nurturing my family and pursuing my passions, I feel aligned with my purpose—and grateful that, despite the detours, I am doing what I was meant to do in all aspects of my life.
