Rob Mendez shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Hi Rob, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What is a normal day like for you right now?
My days are very structured but even then it can get tricky to balance life and work. I run two businesses while also working a full-time 9–5. I start my mornings with physical therapy and a run. After my 9-5, I head to the gym for my daily workout, and then I dedicate my evenings to building and growing my businesses. It’s definitely a full schedule, but I enjoy staying productive.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Rob Mendez, and at my core I’m a creative, which I express through photography and cinematography. I started my photography journey nearly a decade ago and I’ve enjoyed every minute of it. Over the past year and a half, I have been building Forte Fitness, a fitness apparel brand that combines storytelling with apparel to inspire and empower others. For me, whether it’s through visuals or entrepreneurship, I’m always focused on creating work that motivates people and makes a lasting impact.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who taught you the most about work?
I learned about work from my parents, especially my father. He spent over two decades in masonry and till this day, is the hardest working person I know. As a kid, I would often go with him on his weekend side jobs, and seeing his dedication left a big impression on me. From him, I learned the importance of hard work, discipline, and taking pride in what you do. That foundation shaped my work ethic and has carried through everything I do today.
What’s something you changed your mind about after failing hard?
Failing has changed my mind about failing. I used to be scared to fail. But I’ve come to realize that failing is necessary to be successful. The way I see it is there is never really failure, only lessons. You truly only fail if you give up.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
100%. Why pretend to be someone you’re not? I believe authenticity is one of the most important values you can live by. The public version of me is the same as the real me. I don’t put on a mask or try to be something I’m not. I embrace my struggles and experiences because they’ve shaped me into who I am today, and I believe sharing that openly helps inspire others. One of my core philosophies is that strength isn’t just physical, it’s mental and emotional, and being transparent about both victories and challenges builds real connection and trust.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What are you doing today that won’t pay off for 7–10 years?
Working hard, staying disciplined and I think most importantly, taking care of my health as best as I can. It’s hard to fail when you work hard consistently. I’m sure we’ve all heard the saying “I’m here for a good time not a long time”. I say, why not both? Taking care of my health will ensure that “both” will happen, God willing.
