Life & Work with Anna Gabriella Herrera Caverzan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anna Gabriella Herrera Caverzan.

Anna Gabriella, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started making art by drawing anime! At university, I started my own collective called @_holadonpepito with my friend Melanie, and we sold bookmarks, postcards, stickers, agendas and other things we designed. Due to the circumstances in Venezuela, my home country, I decided to move abroad. At first, I went to Miami, Florida, managing on the branding of a Colombian bartender, @antimixologist. Working with him allowed me to go to different parts of the U.S, helping him to consolidate himself in his industry and giving me the chance to further evolve and develop my own craft: observing, absorbing and imitating as a contemporary artist. When I finished my project with him, I moved to Barcelona because getting there was easier for me as an Italian citizen (thanks, double nationalities!). When I just arrived in Barcelona, I had the chance to work with many companies and an art gallery — which formally introduced me to the European standard of contemporary art. I’ve been in Barcelona for almost three years, and it has been an exciting adventure! Nowadays, I work with my personal brand and in the beauty industry as an art director of the brand @demoi.official. Being part of the DE MOI family allows me to continue growing and polishing my identity as an artist (thanks, DE MOI!). You can see my visual journey at @randomlovers on Instagram!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Immigrating in general, I think, is very depressing. Being far away from your family and constantly being discriminated against makes you realize that you have to put in double the effort. But that’s okay — I really adore what resilience can do to the growth of a person. Behind the scenes, I was working as a waitress, in a call centre, and even as a personal assistant for a rich man — which I only did for a day and a half because I got scared. I’m lucky that I live on digital content creation nowadays!

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My production involves a wide range of mediums: oil on canvas, mixed media, digital illustration and even lithography. I find inspiration from historical art movements such as cubism, expressionism and symbolism, incorporating aesthetical research and sociopolitical commentary on women’s role in society and modern beauty standards. Today, I am working on my solo exhibition in Raima, Barcelona, probing into the biggest question of them all: love. It will take place on the 30th of September, and I wish to see you all there!

What’s next?
With DE MOI, I am currently developing a line of organic scarves, and I wish to create more collections in the future. I want to polish my artistic skills and eventually perform and exhibit at museums like the MACBA of Barcelona. You can say that I’m looking for more opportunities and sponsorships to expand my artistic vision into a whole universe — my goal is to create a Randomlovers world, to which people come and get lost. Visit my website to get a sneak peek at what this world could look like!
