Today we’d like to introduce you to Beami.
Hi Beami, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I have spent most of my life overcoming intense hardship and a couple of years ago recognized that my natural strengths and lived experiences could be best utilized in full as an actor. Acting has saved my life, been the best therapy ever and allowed me to take part in projects, passions and creations much bigger than myself. The first time I set foot on set, I felt like I was home for the first time in my life. I have spent every day since determined to overcome my obstacles and create a life that allows me to bring characters to life from a page, travel the world, be of service to others, and be a part of telling incredible stories for the world to witness.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has been anything but a smooth road. Launching my career while at rock bottom, homeless, traumatized and alone has been wildly challenging. But, anything is better than the life that I came from. Becoming aware of my own talent – and gaining the confidence to embrace that awareness no matter what others have to say about me or how they project or perceive me – has been very empowering, disorienting and isolating. I would never want to go backwards, even if I have lost everything I once had along the way. I am grateful for all of it. I am only blessed.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
The attention/adoration/fame aspect of entertainment has never done anything for me. There is nothing anybody or anything can offer me that I don’t already carry within myself. Telling stories, creating the embodiment of characters, working with other talented humans is what makes me tick, what lights my fire. I have lived a wide-range of experiences that allows me to tap into various aspects of reality and humanity to fit and form into many different types of people to embody the character with authentic justice and make him real. I lived as him previously. I’m just bringing forth what I’ve already been through. I feel everything very deeply and there isn’t a synopsis or script that I’ve come across that didn’t bring me to tears because I remember how it felt to be there. I remember how real it was for me. Unlike those born in privilege and prosperity, I don’t need to be taught how to feel, or how to be in tune with my emotions, in order to fake characteristics on screen to portray the realities of the common human experience – I’ve been on the ground living it my entire life.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
My advice for networking is to don’t make it everything. Don’t burn bridges (unless that bridge should be burned), don’t entertain everybody who entertains you because not everybody is looking out for your best interest. Only you know what is best for you. Know yourself, become confident in who that is before you ever start trying to link with others. Otherwise, you’ll be pulled a million different ways from a million different opinions while you lose sight of everything. Be around people that feed your true spark, not jealous weirdos who alter your natural shine in the disguise of support and elevation. You are worthy and whole and complete exactly as you are. Just bet on yourself and then go get it. The others will rise up to you. There are no rules. There is no right way. Anybody can do anything. Basically: don’t network just for the sake of networking. Don’t let somebody else create your plan for your life and your triumph. Be the creator of your own destiny.
