Hi Chris, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Hello there, I’m a neurospicy tattoo artist in South Austin, Texas. I started tattooing shortly after joining the military in 2005 and kept tattooing after I got out.. while in the military is part of the presidential honor guard, working at the White house, Pentagon, capital while performing over 1000 funerals at Arlington cemetery and 200 drill team performances around the country. I did that for my first two years and then the last three years I was a medic/corpseman. I’ve been tattooing for 20 years, I’m trained in a multiple array of styles. I’ve been in Austin for the past 14 years and staying steady with my niche pop culture approach. I did three Inkmaster programs and won two of them. I was also very fortunate to become a Lucasfilm, licensed tattoo artist and have a piece of artwork hanging in the Star Wars Museum in San Francisco.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Tattooing is a career that you don’t start to get rich. It lives outside of the norms that comes with its own problems. It wasn’t a smooth road but nothing worth it ever is.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m an artist and a tattooer. I’m trained in many styles of tattooing, but I specialize in custom illustrative pop culture. I’m proud of the body of work that I was able to create with the trust of my clients. I always say it’s a 50-50 experience. I feed off of a clients idea and let them know the multiple possibilities and we bounce ideas back-and-forth And usually come up with something that we’re both really excited about I’d say what sets me apart is my ability to take my clients ideas and really give them something they weren’t expecting while staying true to it being custom and I will not ever repeat that design. With experience also come speed so also very fast and don’t waste time. I also love doing mash ups. A lot of people have ideas of wanting a whole bunch of different things and I usually can make them flow and interact pretty easily. So I have a lot of fun, combining different genres as well.
What’s next?
My wife and I are planning on moving to Baltimore around 2030. My wife is from Baltimore so we are moving back there and I’m going to explore the East Coast side of tattooing more.
