Today we’d like to introduce you to Christine Flores.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
There are moments in life that hum quietly at first, then grow louder until you can’t ignore them.
I was building a career in retail pharmacy when I began to feel the slow pull of something else—something more personal, more creative, more mine. Around the same time, my husband and I found out we were expecting our first child, and life came into sharp focus. I started to ask bigger questions: How did I want to spend my days? What kind of life were we building? What would it mean to create something meaningful and still be present for the small, sacred moments of family life?
That’s when a childhood memory returned to me—summer days spent near my great-grandfather’s beehives. There was a certain magic to those long afternoons: the golden smell of beeswax warming in the sun, the mesmerizing rhythm of the hive. It was a sensory kind of wonder that stuck with me, even after the years had passed.
When family mentioned a local artisan making beeswax candles, I felt something click. We reached out and I soon found myself working just miles from where my great-grandfather once kept his hives. What began as curiosity quickly turned into a calling.
From that spark, The Beeswax Co. became our own. Rooted in craftsmanship and care, our work celebrates the quiet beauty of natural materials and the heritage of the hive. What started with hand-poured candles has grown into a line of bulk beeswax, artisan goods, and everyday essentials—designed for those who value purity, sustainability, and soul.
Today, I get to do work that fills me up—and lights up others, too. And like the bees, we’re always building, always growing, always reaching for what’s next.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Every voyage worth taking encounters both calm waters and rough seas—and this one has been no exception. Over the past 15 years, I’ve navigated seasons of steady winds and sudden storms. In the beginning, the work was centered around transforming a small, craft-based passion into something that could grow—refining systems, creating structure, and building a business that could sustain itself without losing its soul. Then came the pandemic, when we suddenly found ourselves in uncharted waters—tripling our annual revenue and having to scale quickly, all while preserving our standards, our service, and the wellbeing of the team. One of the most humbling and transformative parts of the journey has been learning how to lead—not just by direction, but by example. That meant taking ownership of my missteps, getting honest about what needed to change in me, and approaching leadership the same way a beekeeper approaches the hive: with patience, reverence, and a deep sense of responsibility for the whole.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
At heart, we’re candle makers—but really, our work is about creating warmth, intention, and beauty from something ancient and elemental. We craft pure beeswax candles and goods from the wax of Texas bees, using time-honored methods and natural materials. Every product is made to honor the slow art of beekeeping and the rich, golden yield of the hive.
We’re known for our clean burn, our signature honeyed scent, and the quality you can feel the moment you light the wick. But what sets us apart is our quiet devotion to craft. Our Burnished collection, for example, showcases artisan hand-finishes using vintage beekeeping tools—each one a piece of functional art. Our Pure line offers everyday comfort with thoughtful utility, and our Supply offerings support fellow makers and candle lovers with raw, sustainable materials.
I’m most proud of the fact that we’ve never strayed from our values—even as we’ve grown. We’ve stayed true to the bees, to our customers, and to the belief that a well-made candle can transform a space and soften the edges of a long day.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Perseverance. Building something lasting takes time and a willingness to keep going—even when the way forward feels uncertain.
