Today we’d like to introduce you to Dede Roberson.
Dede, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was always the girl in school that did her own hair & people loved my hair & how I dressed. I actually got in the hair game on accident it wasnt my actual dream. I always tell people the hair game chose me I didn’t choose to be a hairstylist! It was a hobby that I got from my mom , who was a hairstylist when I was a kid that later turned into my career. I started doing my friends hair after graduating & it kind of took off from there. This was before social media was really a thing , just word of mouth . People would ask my friends who did their hair & they would pass on my information. I remember my very 1st promo pic was on Instagram , it was a sew in and some curls I did on one of my friends . Things just took off from there.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t always been easy simply because I’m into so many different things , I like to do hair , model , create content , I love to dance , I use to actually want to be a background dancer for celebrities when I was a kid, that’s how passionate I was about dancing . I love fashion and photography, I like to do so many different things , it’s so hard channeling one talent when you have so many . Being a creative person and an entrepreneur alone is challenging, you have to literally walk on faith and a dream everyday . You have to motivate yourself when no one else does . You have to stay creative and inspired and that’s hard when you’re dealing with life . Being an entrepreneur isn’t for the weak. It’s so up and down ! But I wouldn’t have it any other way . I struggle with trying to figure out which talent god wants me to pursue , that’s my biggest struggle trying to follow gods path when my mind wants to do some many things lol
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a hairstylist and fashion influencer . What am I most known for? , well it depends on who you ask lol people who grew up with me would say I’m known for dancing and my style but now that I’m grown I’m most known for specializing in Traditional Sew Ins , my big hair and people love the way I dress . My style has always intrigued people I’m most proud of not giving up ! As a creative , an entrepreneur, it’s so easy to just give up because not every season will be great but I always push through no matter what , Anything I want or strive for I go and get it no matter how long it takes , my ambition definitely sets me apart from others !
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
This may sound crazy but Instagram and TikTok motivate and inspire me a lot . I love seeing different creators create magic ! When it comes to hair and fashion I get a lot of inspiration from those apps believe it or not lol
