Hi Dina known , so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Di’Na better known as DEMI is the Brains and Beauty of Polished as she demonstrates pure natural raw talent in the cosmetology industry. Born and raised in New Orleans my mother, grandmother, and aunts truly inspired me. My inspiration and dedication came while growing up watching my Aunts who are Licensed Cosmetologist work, I would begged them to let me help. One-day one of my Aunt Nece taught me how to braid. She showed me the hardest braiding technique and said If I can catch on to that technique she would let me help with other techniques. Two Days later I came back determined and ready. My Aunt could not believe it. To her surprise I had did it and was actually good at it. Cornrows to be exact . A few months later at the age of 10, I was braiding the entire neighborhood including adults. By the age of 13, I had perfected the craft, and braiding became my hobby and passion.
With years of experience in hair styling. At 18, I graduated high school and continue my education receive my associate degree in liberal arts then continuing my pursuit in Respiratory field. Receiving my associate and bachelor degree. The entire time my passion never left me. That was hair. My services had expanded to doing weaves,sew-ins silk press,men services, coloring, cutting,makeup and trendsetting hairstyles. I became extremely popular in the New Orleans Area being very creative, while working depicting my God-Given Talent. After years of working hard,dedication, and servicing clients. I made a choice to become my own Boss. Attending Stevenson’s Beauty College, in New Orleans obtaining my cosmetology license. My mother always said, “whatever you do, be the best you can be at it.”My Mother Always believed hair was my true passion. She asked said my talent was a gift and expressed that I travel and expand. Shortly after Covid I decided to relocate to the Austin Area. I would always visit and told myself one-day I would move here. Austin was always such a beautiful place in my eyes. Here I am 3 years later glowing and growing as an entrepreneur . Overcoming all my fears and adversities
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It wasn’t always a smooth road experiencing so many bumps along the road. With every bump, I never took it as failure. I took it as I had to self reflect and figure out what I need to do to become better. One struggle that was very challenging that I would never forget was going back to school to get my actually license. I had two small kids and a business owner at the time. The best decision was to close my business and attend night school. Working countless hours to pay for my tuition of out of pocket. At the time no one but my close circle knew my future plans. Many days it seems difficult, one day I even questioned myself. I started to become very popular and didn’t understand the dark side of business. Thankfully my family,friends, teachers, and mentors has been super supportive. My kids was always my motivation. I continued to overcome all the bumps in the road. With hard work, prayers,and determination I have been extremely blessed.

I’m truly passionate while demonstrating natural talent, professionalism, leadership, teamwork, and entrepreneurship . My Educational background includes an associate degree in Liberal Arts, Associate & Bachelor degree in Respiratory Therapy, and my thriving passion in Cosmetology. Educational background of cosmetology includes Steveson’s Academy of Hair Design in New Orleans, Louisiana . Nationally registered as a cosmologist.
Specializing in healthy hair In-Salon Services: Ranging from basic cuts, coloring, treatments, weaving, braiding, Updos, and Bridal. Braiding and Locs Services is definitely Polished specialty. I’m known for my beautiful braids, and working so well with kids. I’m proud to launch the #1 kids braiding salon in ATX setting me apart from others by being extremely patient, compassionate, and caring with my junior clients. Kids are my absolute favorite. I’m proud to launch the #1 kids braiding salon in ATX-Round Rock setting me apart from others. I’m extremely patient, compassionate, and caring with my junior clients. The parents have the option to of drop off services as I provide my professionalism, and exceptional service.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
I absolutely love ATX. The culture, the scenery, and energy is always so upbeat and thriving. I like that the community wants to see you win and succeed. Where I’m from that’s not likely. I like that as stylist we can come together and collectively create experiences and platforms for growth. Jan 2024 I created an Austin’s Braiding Group on Facebook. As entrepreneurs we are able to connect, promote, network and educate.
