Today we’d like to introduce you to Hannah Skalsky.
Hannah, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve been tattooing for 23 years, and it has been an incredible journey.
I started in Fort Worth , Texas. Moved to Austin 12 years ago.
I work now at 512 tattoos in north Austin.
I got started in art as a young girl, with a keen interest in classical art.
Was lucky enough to be noticed for my talent and offered an apprenticeship.
Over the years, I’ve worked hard and dedicated myself to honing my craft in 4 different shops.
I truly enjoy tattooing and the opportunity to connect with my clients.
I appreciate the trust my clients place in me. I love the variety of style I get to work in.
I enjoy large scale pieces.
I appreciative of what Tattooing has given me over the years.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The growth of the tattoo industry over the past 23 years has been both challenging and rewarding.
The changes have sometimes been difficult to navigate, they have also opened up new opportunities for creativity and more clients .
One of the most significant challenges I’ve faced was overcoming cancer, which has given me a deeper appreciation for every day. Art has definitely been a blessing in my life.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m unique in the tattoo field because I can adapt to various styles, but my specialty lies in large-scale pieces. I truly enjoy the challenge of incorporating intricate details and cohesiveness into the piece.
I have a passion for black and gray realism, and I also love exploring Japanese and American traditional styles. What sets me apart is my ability to create any style that resonates with my clients.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
I’m an avid horseback rider. I’ve been riding since I was a little girl. My dad taught me.
I then got into English eventing for 8 years, and when I moved to Austin 12 years ago I focused on show jumping and dressage.
I’ve transitioned to western specifically Ranch Sorting for the last two and half years.
I’ve won two Texas state titles.
I’m proud to say that I’m leading in national points in Texas and ranking among the top five money earners in my division nationally.
