Life & Work with Jacqueline Hillman

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacqueline Hillman.

Hi Jacqueline, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started my food blog when I was living in Sydney, Australia. It all began with my love of food and really just capturing the moment. From the beginning, it was simply pictures and emotions through my Instagram posts and then more in-depth in my blog site with detailed reviews on each restaurant and experience as well as travel and recommendations. I have now grown my content and posts to be more in-depth and informative, with the hope to help the many explorers around who have a love of good food and travel. Taste and flavors are very important to me, so I believe my honest reviews and way of telling my experience has helped me grow in the food blogging community. I grew up in New Zealand, and after living in Australia, I moved to US and captured all my travels and food visits and experiences. I always try to think of what a reader would find useful and information I would research on before visiting any place and provide as much detail as possible, with my own style and twist. I now not only write for my own blog but also for an LA-based magazine on food reviews, lifestyle, fashion and travel. It really is a dream to be able to do what I love – writing and that too about my most favorite topics!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I guess being found by the right people can be a struggle at the beginning, but it is all about capturing your niche, staying true to yourself and providing quality content. I think that having a good support circle of people who really want you to do well is also important – for instance my husband has always been very supportive with everything which has been really helpful in growing and developing my niche as well as myself. And really, just keep at it despite whatever people may think if you have a passion for something – you will succeed.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I write my own food blog which not only focuses on food and restaurant reviews but travel, experiences and things to do. I have pieces on US, Australia and New Zealand as well as Asia and my content is ever-growing. I travel between Texas and California primarily as well as all over the world. I am most proud of my work that I have written for Loop Magazine (LA-based magazine) and being published officially.

What sets me apart is my honesty and love for what I do. I also try to think of what a reader would find useful and provide as much information as possible, but in a way that would capture their interest and in bite-sized detail. Keep it relevant and to the point!

What were you like growing up?
I was a bit of an introvert, but writing gave me a way to express myself and was an outlet in a way to my creativity. So I knew from a young age what my passion and skills were and I always sought to develop these and surrounded myself with people who had interest in the same field. Two of the best writers I know are my Dad and uncle so I really had a great opportunity to learn from the best.
