Life & Work with Jamielee Jakubowski of Austin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamielee Jakubowski.

Jamielee, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I was always an artistic kid growing up. I was involved in art, band, color guard, and theatre, so creativity has always been a huge part of my life. I ended up teaching middle school theatre for 9 years, and while I loved getting to be creative with my students, I never imagined that creativity would eventually become my own business.

Funnily enough, I found out this was even an option for me because of my best friend, Caroline. She sent me a video of another artist painting invitations for a friend’s wedding and texted me, “I think you can do this.” She was right.

Now I get to combine my love of art, storytelling, and weddings to create something meaningful for couples on one of the most special days of their lives. And honestly, I still can’t believe I get to call this my job!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
My biggest challenge has been learning the ins and outs of running my own business. There is definitely a lot that goes into being a business owner that I never expected, and I’m constantly learning as I go. That said, one of the best parts of this journey has been the incredible community I’ve found within the wedding industry. I’ve met so many wonderful wedding professionals who have generously shared their knowledge, answered my endless questions, and helped me navigate the parts of business ownership that were completely new to me. What started as an obstacle has really become an opportunity to learn, grow, and connect with some amazing people along the way.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I specialize in wedding art, from custom invitation designs and paper goods to painting live at the wedding! I love creating art that feels personal, colorful, and full of personality, rather than something that feels overly traditional or expected.

I am definitely known for my love of color. I’m always looking for ways to incorporate unexpected colors, playful details, and a little bit of whimsy into my work. Whether I’m designing a wedding invitation suite or painting live on the wedding day, I want the final piece to feel like *you* and capture the feeling of the day.

My live wedding painting style is also a little different from what you might typically see. I like to call it my “storybook character” style. I paint couples and their guests with a whimsical, illustrated feel while still capturing the details and moments that make the day unique. I love that my paintings don’t just document what happened, but tell the story of the wedding in a way that feels fun and nostalgic.

I want my work to make people smile, feel something, and bring them right back to that moment years later. I’m especially proud that I’ve been able to turn something I’ve always loved into a career where I get to be part of so many couples’ biggest moments and create something they can keep forever.

Do you have any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
One of my favorite childhood memories is Halloween! I always loved getting to be creative and come up with a fun costume. There was just something so exciting about picking a character, putting together all the little details, and getting to fully commit to the theme. Honestly, not much has changed! I still love dressing up, getting creative, and I LOVE a good theme!
