Life & Work with John Oliver of Other

Today we’d like to introduce you to John Oliver.

John, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
The story of John Oliver is, born July 8th, 1988. I was raised by a single mother of two (myself and my older sister) while she served in the Army for 26yrs. She taught us the value of working hard in life, discipline and compassion. Being a military brat, we got the privilege to travel around the world, be exposed to different cultures and all walks of life all while remaining humble and thankful. These values have stayed with me growing up in life and still remains my core foundation. I have pushed past stereotypes and prejudgments of me and as an adult, I lead by example. Having such strong and positive influence in my life has shape me into the person I am today.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I think for me, the main obstacle I had in life was the constant moving due to military. You could never really get comfortable or settle with people for long because we moved every 3yrs. Even though the moving was rough, the experiences and exposure to different walks of life that I received, I wouldn’t change a thing.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
So I am a Photographer. I own and ran solely by myself “Mr. ExQuiiSiiTe Photography”. I take photos of all kinds (studio portraits, headshots, Graduation, Birthdays, outdoor settings and events). I pride myself with delivering high quality photos at a reasonable cost with fast turnaround. I customize each session according to my clients vision. I established a more of a creative partnership with clients from start to finish which leads to a more welcoming and comfortable photoshoot. My clients are left with a positive experience and already planning for future photoshoots. Being a self taught photographer has been a beautiful life experience. There’s endless learning in the photography world which I love and room to forever grow. I have always had a love for photography since a young age. I remember my mom buying those disposable cameras to take pictures on family trips and for some reason, she trusted me with it. Boy did I go to town with taking a ton of pictures any and everything. I didn’t know it then but, that started my photography journey which has lead me to the passion and love I still have for it today. It has helped me see the world through a different lens.

We’d be interested to hear your thoughts on luck and what role, if any, you feel it’s played for you?
I would say it’s a combination of things like Good & Bad luck, hard work, staying focus, But also staying humble and appreciative. All of this plays a part in my personal & professional life and has shaped me to be the person I am today. Surrounding myself with family & friends who keep me grounded but are also very supportive & positive is a major blessing. To me, I’m blessed to be doing something I love and passionate about but I’m also so very grateful and thankful for every opportunity that comes my way. I don’t take anything for granted and again, I’m truly blessed and honored.
