Life & Work with Kaneeka Moore of Austin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kaneeka Moore

Hi Kaneeka , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
So I am a licensed nail artist. I worked for a couple luxury nail salons and eventually started my own mobile nail service which was Nail-ish ✌🏾in 2018. Once the pandemic hit and we had to quarantine, I had to pivot into making products. I tried my hand at press on nails before and it flopped‼️ So this was the perfect opportunity to try again. This time it exceeded my expectations.

Soon after I created my own custom press on nail line, I also created my own jewelry line, Envy-ish. My creative juices just were at an all time high and I decided to just incorporate everything that I personally love into being my new business venture. Which is beauty, fashion, nails, and all things art. And the reimagined Nail-ish ✌🏾 was created.

I went from providing services to selling my own handmade products. I sourced my fashion bags and clothes from third parties. But everything about my brand embodies my uniqueness. I like to be one of a kind. So I make sure when I’m creating, that I keep that same energy ‼️

I try to make my creations different from others, as well as not all the exact same, as previously creations I’ve made. My press on nails are all one of a kind. I will only make a set once and never the same. My fashion bags and clothes are a little different since I don’t personally make them. But I make sure they are unique and functional.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Oh wow, I wish that I could say it has been easy sailing, but it has NOT‼️I am still holding on today‼️ I thought I would be further along in my business journey by now. You know, brick and mortar, great online sells, etc. I am still working towards those things.

Running a business is hard‼️ Especially when you never done it before and you don’t have any help. It’s been trial and error for me personally. I am still learning as I go. I keep falling down in my finances, but I also keep getting back up and keep going. I believe if I had help marketing correctly and beefing up my online presence and website I would be in a better position. Ideally I just want to create and pass all the other task to a team that takes care of the rest. That way I can operate from my strength, which is creating‼️ But having this experience has its ups and downs. I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Shameless ask, if anyone is out there and able to help me please reach out. Disclaimer, I don’t have alot of funding to pay 😅. So if you want to barter your services or just be an investment angel, please feel free. Thank you‼️

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
As I said earlier, I am a licensed nail artist turned jewelry designer, fashion stylist, content creator, and artist. I like to call myself a Jackie of all trades as my sister would say. I absolutely love making my press on nails and art. But my passion is creating jewelry and fashion. I honestly just love creating‼️ I am most proud of my press on nails and my jewelry line. I never thought I would be a jewelry designer, which is crazy as I say it. A Black girl from the hood of Chicago, a jewelry designer and soon to be fashion mogul‼️ That sounds so GOOD lol.

What sets me apart from others I would say is I have always been different. From a kid literally, I have always felt like the odd ball out. When everyone wants to be like other people or celebrities I have always danced to the beat of my own drum. I remember my family would make fun of me for how I would dress or the things I liked. It never bothered me though because I never wanted to be like or look like anyone else. And that has just been my mentality my whole life‼️ And when I’m creating I keep that in mind. Because their are other people who want to stand out on their own too. People say other people are weird because they are different. I say people are weird because they want to be like other people‼️ In a world where you can be anything you want, I’m going to always be MYSELF‼️ And that’s what sets me apart.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Lol, risks has to be my middle name in another dimension‼️ Chillld, I don’t know if it’s because I’m an Aries, which is the BEST zodiac sign by the way. And let me be clear, (clears throat) April Aries‼️ Or if I was just born a risk taker lol. The amount of risks I am willing to take should probably be studied, lol. I believe when you are an entrepreneur, you have to take risks. Now they definitely should be more calculated than mine, but that’s another story for another article lol.

One major risk I have taken that im literally still paying for today is maxing out my credit cards to fund and supply my business. I just brought everything I thought I needed and possibly would need. And if I’m being completely honest I even paid some of my personal bills with my cards because some months are better than others when you are an entrepreneur. We take risks and do what we have to do in order to survive. I wish I was more responsible with my risks. But I truly believe it will all be worth it. I believe you have to make sacrifices and take risk when doing business. And if you truly believe in yourself and what you are doing, great risks brings greater rewards. And what I am going to achieve is not small. I am actively creating generational wealth‼️ If I don’t do it, who will.
