Life & Work with Kim Repede of Georgetown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kim Repede.

Hi Kim, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I spent my career working in corporate meeting and event production. During that time I wore many hats including presentation graphics artist, account executive, video and meeting producer, and production department manager. I always enjoyed creating images and when my family asked me to restore some of our old family photos, I realized this was something that would make an interesting and enjoyable business. So, 6 years ago I built my website and opened Photozen.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The biggest challenges in my business have been on the technical side, by that I mean keeping the software and hardware up to date and running smoothly.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I specialize in bringing new life to faded and damaged photographs, and I’m especially proud of restoring images that are considered particularly challenging—photos with severe damage that many people believe are lost forever.

While AI has made impressive strides in photo restoration, I don’t rely on it alone. My background in graphic design, along with my drawing skills, allows me to approach each restoration with a careful, hands-on eye. I pay close attention to details like facial features, expressions, and clothing, making sure nothing important is lost and that the final result stays as true to the original image as possible.

In addition to restoration work, clients also turn to me to create exhibit displays and event posters, especially when historic or restored photographs need to be thoughtfully incorporated into the final design.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
Favorite Book “Drawing with the Right Side of the Brain.” Author – Betty Edwards. It’s been around awhile but it’s timeless. https://www.drawright.com/

Favorite App – My iPhone Camera App as I am an avid photographer. I also shoot with a Canon R8 Mirrorless. You can see some of my photography on my website. https://www.kimsphotozen.com/photography

Favorite Podcast – “Wiser than Me” with Julia Louis-Dreyfus – I find hearing life stories from older accomplished women very inspirational.
