Life & Work with Lynne Reznick of Austin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lynne Reznick.

Hi Lynne, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was actually a high school history teacher for a decade after college. I loved teaching but always felt a pull toward the visual arts. When I got married I discovered how wedding photography had evolved as an art form in the early 2000s and I fell in love with it.

After my wedding, I was blessed to be mentored by my wonderful wedding photographer. I assisted her and photographed weddings with her for a full year while I was teaching. I launched my own business while still working full-time in education in 2012 and slowly built my skills and experience on the weekends and over the summers. After several years of operating my photography business as a side hustle, in 2017 I decided to take the leap to full-time and never looked back.

My husband’s a professor and his career took us from Hartford, CT, to Boston, MA, to upstate NY, to our current home in Georgetown, TX. Each move meant building new relationships, learning a new market, and starting over in many ways, but it also reinforced my love for what I do. Thankfully, we both feel this latest move to Texas is right where we’re meant to be. I’m loving building a home, a business, and a full life in the Austin area where there is a thriving wedding industry that’s brimming with caring event professionals who have welcomed me in and helped ease my transition to a new market.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Being a small business owner is tough and requires you to wear a lot of hats, so there have been many hard decisions and stressful times over the course of the last 14 years. But moving multiple times has been the single biggest challenge for me in my business. Every move meant leaving behind an established network and beginning again in a new place while continuing to serve clients in another region. Starting over again in a new area, even though I have over a decade of experience, has been disheartening at times. But, moving forced me to become adaptable, to set up really strong systems to stay organized and serve my clients well, and reminded me that relationships are ultimately what sustain a business. I also learned that one of my strengths is in being a connector and in nurturing relationships with my industry peers, as well as with the couples I photograph. Those connections have brought me so much joy, as well as allowed my business to transition from one market to the next throughout my career.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a hybrid wedding photographer specializing in heartfelt imagery captured through a blend of digital and film photography. I photograph elevated wedding celebrations throughout Austin, San Antonio, and the Texas Hill Country, and my work is centered on creating meaningful images that will last for generations.

After more than a decade as a wedding photographer in New England and now also in Austin, TX, I know that the best wedding photos don’t just reflect what happened, they remind you why it mattered. And that’s why I love to document full wedding weekends for my couples that preserve their memories from rehearsal dinner and the welcome party through the ceremony and the celebration to follow. Because some of the most meaningful memories happen outside of the wedding day itself.

Simply put, I understand the weight of what couples are trusting me with. For most people, their wedding is the most anticipated, carefully planned, and emotionally significant celebration of their lives. They’ve spent months dreaming about it, and once it’s over, the photographs become one of the few lasting pieces they have to remember it by. That’s a responsibility I never take lightly.

My background as an educator has shaped the way I approach weddings and supporting my couples throughout the planning process. I know wedding planning can be stressful, so I take care to proactively communicate and be a resource. I love to collaborate with planners and the rest of the vendor teams to make the planning process as seamless and stress-free as possible and allow my couples to be fully present throughout their celebration.

I find that getting to know my couples well before the wedding weekend helps them feel more comfortable and at ease in front of the camera. I always meet with couples on a video call before they book me to ensure I’m a great fit for them and the celebration they’re envisioning. And over the course of planning we connect multiple times for check-ins that allow me to show up as a familiar trusted presence on their wedding day.

That connection allows me to capture moments with more honesty and depth. I know that I’m preserving family history. I’m documenting relationships, traditions, and moments that future generations will look back on. Beautiful portraits matter, of course, but so do the quiet hugs with grandparents, the laughter during toasts, and the tiny in-between moments that often become the most meaningful memories.

I feel incredibly fortunate to have a career where I get to witness so much love, connection, and joy. Being invited into these deeply personal moments and preserving them for couples and their families is incredibly fulfilling.
