Life & Work with Maria G

Today we’d like to introduce you to Maria G.

Hi Maria, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My passion for drag has been present from the beginning of Rupaul Drag Race. I was never brave enough to start doing drag myself until the pandemic started.

I had time to be myself and time to express my art.

March 2020, I picked up a brush and eye shadow pallet and painted on myself, as I kept going, I noticed that it is just like drawing/painting. I have been drawing and painting since middle school, I noticed that blending eyeshadow was easy.

My stage name Maria G. was inspired by my mother who had passed away in December 2019, I also had the idea of having a very Mexican name because no drag queen has a name like the one I have.

I want to be unique because nobody can do Maria G like I can.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There has been a lot of bumps in the road to be a better drag queen.

People talk and people judge so as an entertainer, I had to build a strong mindset and not let negative comments bother me, negative comments can brake anyone down.

As a baby drag queen is also a struggle to get gigs (shows ) since nobody knows who you are or what you can bring to the stage.

Drag takes time and it will never be easy.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
When it comes to drag, I am known for my uniqueness in personality, costume, and makeup.

As a lip-sync performance, I try to do a lot of Spanish pop music, but the Music that are up to dates, such as Karol G, Becky G, Danna Paola and many more.

We love surprises, fun facts and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
That I love food, I like to cook.
