Today we’d like to introduce you to Mariah Alise.
Hi Mariah , can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve been singing for as long as I can remember, and music has always been a major part of who I am. Growing up in Austin, I found myself drawn to R&B and soul, especially artists like Keyshia Cole and Jazmine Sullivan who weren’t afraid to be vulnerable and tell real stories through their music. Over time, singing became more than something I loved—it became a way for me to express myself and connect with other people.
I started taking my music more seriously while balancing school, and everyday life. After graduating from Prairie View A&M University, I continued building my career independently as Mariah Alise, releasing my own music, performing throughout Austin, creating content, and learning the business side of being an artist along the way.
My journey has definitely been a growing process. Every performance, release, opportunity, and even setback has helped me become more confident in my sound and in the type of artist I want to be. Today, I’m focused on creating R&B music that feels honest, soulful, and relatable while continuing to grow my audience beyond Austin. Ultimately, I want people to hear my music and feel like somebody understands exactly what they’re going through.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. One of my biggest challenges has been learning how to balance every part of my life while still making room for my music. I finished college while navigating motherhood, trying to stay consistent with taking care of myself physically and mentally, and eventually going through a breakup and adjusting to a new chapter of my life.
After graduating, I also experienced the reality of trying to find the right career opportunity while continuing to pursue music independently. More recently, losing my grandmother was one of the hardest things I’ve had to go through. There have been seasons where life felt like a lot was happening at once, but music has remained something I can always come back to.
Those experiences have shaped me not only as a person, but also as an artist. I’ve learned that balance doesn’t always mean having everything perfectly together—it’s learning how to keep going, give yourself grace, and stay committed to what you love even when life changes around you. A lot of what I’ve experienced has given me more depth, perspective, and real emotion to bring into my music.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m an independent R&B and soul artist who focuses on creating music that feels honest, emotional, and relatable. I’m continuing to develop a style that feels completely like me. I love music that tells a story and makes people feel something, whether that’s confidence, heartbreak, healing, love, or growth.
A big part of my work is pulling from real experiences and turning them into music that other people can connect with. I’m also very hands-on with my career. As an independent artist, I’m involved in everything from recording and performing to creative direction, visuals, content, marketing, and building my brand.
I’m most proud of the growth I’ve had as an artist and the fact that I’ve continued pursuing music through so many different seasons of my life. I’ve been able to release music, perform throughout Austin, grow my audience, and build genuine listeners while doing it independently.
What sets me apart is my authenticity. I don’t want to create music just because something is trending. I want people to hear a song and feel like they’re hearing a real story from a real person. My goal is to create timeless R&B that people can grow with and come back to years later.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that life is going to keep changing. I’ve had to learn how to keep showing up through different seasons of my life, whether that was finishing college, becoming a mother, navigating a breakup, building a career after graduation, or grieving the loss of my grandmother.
I’ve also learned to give myself grace. Balance doesn’t always mean doing everything perfectly at the same time. Sometimes it means knowing what needs your attention in that season and still finding ways to stay connected to your purpose.
More than anything, I’ve learned that consistency, faith, and trusting my own journey are important. Everyone’s timeline looks different, and I’m learning not to rush mine. Everything I’ve experienced has helped shape the woman and artist I’m becoming.
